Tähän postaukseen olen koonnut talven aikana ottamiani sekalaisia nukkekuvia ja tällä kertaa joukkoon mahtuu vaihteeksi muutama figuurikuvakin. Kuvien ohella esittelen muutamia käsityöprojektejani, fiilistelen nukkeja ja figuurikokoelmaani ja lopussa kerron yleisistä kuulumisistani ja uusista nukkehankinnoista. 

I have gathered some miscellaneous doll photos I have taken during the winter to this post. This time there will be a few figure photos too for a change. In addition to photos, I will also present a few of my crafting projects, talk about my dolls and figure collection, and lastly share some general news and tell about my new doll purchases. 

 

Hatsune Miku 15th Anniversary KEI Ver.

Joulupostaukseen nämä kuvat eivät ehtineet, joten julkaisen ne nyt. Tämä figuuri oli ollut toivelistallani siitä asti, kun ensi kertaa näin sen, joten tilasin sen itselleni joululahjaksi Mandarakesta. Figuurissa ihastuin tuohon enkeliteemaan – se sopii Mikulle niin hyvin – mutta pidän myös toteutusta onnistuneena. Vaikka figuuri on Segan, huomaan figuurissa niitä samoja piirteitä, jotka ovat saaneet minut usein päätymään Taiton figuureihin, keskeisimpinä läpikuultavan muovin käyttö hiuksissa ja vaatteissa, liikkeen tuntu figuurin asettelussa sekä muista julkaisuista erottuva alusta. Laatu vastaa Segan tyypillistä prize-figuuria: muovissa on joitain näille tyypillisiä pieniä tummia värjäytymiä mutta ei muuta moitittavaa. Segalla on pari muutakin versiota tästä 15. vuosipäivän enkeli-Mikusta, mutta tämä KEIn versio on ehdoton suosikkini vaatetuksensa takia. 

These photos did not make it to the Christmas post, so I am posting them now. This figure had been on my wish list since I first saw it, so I ordered it from Mandarake as a Christmas for myself. I fell in love with figure's angel theme – it suits Miku so well – but I also like the execution. Despite it being a Sega figure, I notice there are the same features that have made me often choose Taito figures, the most important ones being the use of translucent plastic in the hair and clothes, the feel of movement in figure's pose, and unique stand that differs from other releases. The quality matches the usual Sega prize figures: the plastic has some small dark stains that are typical for these figures, but I do not have other complaints. Sega has a couple of other versions of this 15th anniversary angel Miku, but this KEI version is my unquestionable favourite because of the outfit.

Vaikka en ystävänpäivän allo-/amatonormatiivisista ja kaupallisista piirteistä pidäkään, on se hyvä tekosyy pastellinsävyisille söpöilykuville. Malliksi päätyi tämä FuRyun noodle stopper -figuuri, joka myös on uusi hankinta. Pidän figuurin konseptista, mutta mainittakoon, että joistain kulmista figuuri näyttää paremmalta kuin toisista nassun muotoilun takia. Taustalla pari Amusen pehmoa – olen erityisesti Alpacasso-tuotesarjan fani. :D

Koska nämä ovat ensimmäiset figuurikuvat tässä blogissa, tähän väliin muutama sana figuurikokoelmastani ja minusta figuurikeräilijänä: Aloitin figuurien aktiivisen keräilyn pari vuotta sitten. Tätä ennen minulla oli kyllä muutamia figuureita, mutta ei mitään suunnitelmallista pyrkimystä kokoelman kasvattamiseen. (Tässä figuureilla viittaan nimenomaan anime/videopeli/tms. -hahmoja esittäviin japanilaisfirmojen muovihahmoihin, joihin en laske esimerkiksi Pullipeja ja My Little Ponyja.) Kun päätin aloittaa figuurien aktiivisen keräilyn, halusin jonkin teeman kokoelmaa yhtenäistämään (ja samalla keräilyä rajoittamaan). Ensisijaiseksi keräilykohteeksi valikoitui Vocaloid-figuurit ja erityisesti Miku figuurijulkaisujensa paljouden takia: erilaisia Miku-figuureita löytyy laidasta laitaan, joten saisin kokoelmasta yhtä aikaa monipuolisen ja yhtenäisen. 

Riittävän julkaisumäärän lisäksi teeman tuli olla sellainen, etten kyllästyisi siihen. Vocaloid oli tältä kannalta suhteellisen varma valinta, sillä kuuntelen edelleen joitakin samoja tuottajia kuin 2000- ja 2010-lukujen vaihteessa Vocaloid-musiikin löytäessäni ja samalla löydän vieläkin jatkuvasti uusia suosikkeja.  Monet tuottajat ovat olleet minulle merkittävä inspiraation lähde ja laulusyntetisaattorimusiikkiyhteisöstä on tullut tärkeä osa elämääni. Niinpä Mikukin on minulle luovuuden ja yhteisön symbolina paljon enemmän kuin pelkkä äänipankin maskotti. Miku-figuurien katselu saa hyvälle mielelle, koska esteettisen arvonsa ohella ne ovat muistutus rakkaan musiikin olemassaolosta. Vocaloid-tuotteiden keräily on siis tavallaan osa laajempaa musiikin fanitusta ja tapa aineellistaa muuten pitkälti aineeton kiinnostuksenkohde.

Omistan muutamia figuureita myös muista lähdemateriaaleista, mutta lähdemateriaalin ja/tai hahmon henkilökohtainen merkittävyys on sellainen teema, joka pätee kaikkiin figuureihini. Toisin sanoen en ikinä osta figuuria ainoastaan sen esteettisen arvon takia, vaan figuurin lähdemateriaalilla pitää aina olla myös tunnearvoa. Kokoelmani koostuu pääosin prize-figuureista, mutta sallin itseni ostavan myös kalliimpia figuureita niistä lähdemateriaaleista, joista ei ole olemassa hyviä prize-hintaluokan figuureita. Tähän mennessä ainoat kalliimmat figuurini ovat Ōkamista (kaksi Nendoroidia ja yksi Pop Up Parade). Ōkami on minulle hirmuisen rakas ja nostalginen peli, mutta myös visuaalisesti vaikuttava, minkä takia toivoisin lisää uusia (budjettiin sopivia) julkaisuja tämän pelin hahmoista. Vocaloidin ja Ōkamin lisäksi kokoelmassa on pari figuuria Puella Magi Madoka Magicasta ja yksi figuuri Touhou Projectista. Muutama Segan ja FuRyun Touhou-prizeista on tällä hetkellä toivelistallani. :>

Nukkejen pukeminen ja posettaminen tekevät Pullipien kuvauksesta itselleni figuurien kuvausta mielekkäämpää, joten olen keskittynyt ensisijaisesti niihin, kun taas figuurit ovat olleet enemmän vain koristeina. Kevään edetessä olisi kuitenkin tarkoitus käydä kuvaamassa ulkona ainakin Nendoja.

Even though I do not like the allo-/amatonormative and commercial aspects of Valentine's Day, it is a good excuse to take cute pastel-coloured photos. This FuRyu's noodle stopper (also a new purchase) ended up as my model. I like the concept of the figure, but I should mention that it looks better from some angles than the others due to the face sculpt. A couple of Amuse's plushies in the background – I am especially fond of the Alpacasso product line. :D

Since these are the first figure photos on this blog, I am writing a bit about my collection and myself as a figure collector here: I started to actively collect figures a couple of years ago. Before that, I did have a few figures but no systematic effort to build a collection. (By figures, I here refer specifically to Japanese companies' plastic figures depicting characters from anime/video games/etc. and do not include for example Pullips or My Little Ponys in the count.) When I decided to begin collecting figures actively, I wanted to choose a theme to unify the collection (and, at the same time, to restrict collecting). The theme chosen was Vocaloid figures and Miku figures in particular due to the number of these releases: thanks to the variety of different figures, I would get a collection that is both versatile and coherent at the same time.

In addition to sufficient number of releases, the theme had to be something I would not get bored of. Vocaloid was a relatively safe choice from this point of view since I still listen to some of the same producers as when I discovered Vocaloid music at the turn of the 2000s and 2010s and, at the same time, still constantly find new favourites. Many producers have been a significant source of inspiration for me and the voice synthesizer music community has become an important part of my life. So, Miku as a symbol of creativity and community is much more than just a voice bank mascot to me. Looking at Miku figures makes me happy, because in addition to their aesthetic value, they are a reminder of my beloved music's existence. Therefore, collecting Vocaloid merch is in a way a part of larger act of admiring the music and a way to materialize an otherwise mostly immaterial interest.

I also own a few figures from other source materials, but the personal significance of the source material and/or the character is a theme that applies to all my figures. In other words, I never buy a figure just for its aesthetic value, but the figure's source material must have emotional value as well. My collection mostly consists of prize figures, but I allow myself to buy also more expensive figures from source materials from which there are no good releases in the price range of prize figures. So far, my only more expensive figures are from Ōkami (two Nendoroids and one Pop Up Parade). Ōkami is a very dear and nostalgic game for me, but also impressive visually, which is why I would like more of new (budget-friendly) releases from this game. In addition to Vocaloid and Ōkami, my collection includes a couple of figures from Puella Magi Madoka Magica and one figure from Touhou Project. A few of Sega's and FuRyu's Touhou prizes are currently on my wish list. :>

Dressing up and posing the dolls makes photographing Pullips more rewarding to me, so I have primarily focused on them while figures have been mostly just as decorations. However, when the spring comes, I intend to take some outdoor photos of at least my Nendoroids.

Olin tammikuun alussa kuvaamassa Pullip Lauraa ilta(päivä)hämärissä, ja nukkeparka joutui heti ensimmäisissä ulkoilmakuvauksissaan ääriolosuhteisiin, kun sankka lumisade alkoi juuri kuvaushetkellä. Tästäkin selvittiin. Postauksen ensimmäinen kuva on tästä samasta tilanteesta.

I photographed Pullip Laura at dusk in the early January. Poor doll already got into extreme weather conditions on her very first outdoor photoshoot as a heavy snowfall started at the time of the photoshoot. We survived though. The first photo of the post is from this same setting.

Noan laskiaisena / Noan on Shrovetide

Tein Noanille ja Yunille tällä hetkellä trendaavat "kissapipot" ja yhteensopivat kaulahuivit. (Yunin piposta ja huivista ei valitettavasti ole vielä kuvaa, mutta nämä ovat hiusten väriin yhteen sopien vaaleanpunaiset.) Oli hauskaa, kun kerrankin ei tarvinnut murehtia kavennuksista eikä pahemmin silmukoiden laskemisesta. Nämä valmistuvatkin niin nopeasti, että näitä voisi tehdä vaikka kuinka monta. :D Käytin näissä alpakanvillalankaa (Drops Air), joka oli niin pehmoista, että pitää varmaan ostaa muutama kerä lisää ja kutoa tai virkata jotain myös itselle (ei maksettu mainos).

Hain tässä kuvassa väriteemaa sekä suorien rajojen muodostamaa kerroksellisuutta ja syvyyttä. Kaupunkiympäristön kuvaaminen on hieman mukavuusalueeni ulkopuolella, mutta kuvasta tuli odotettua parempi ja olen tyytyväinen, että kokeilin tätä. Noan kyllä sopii hyvin nimenomaan kaupunkiympäristöön, joten kesällä olisi kiva ottaa kuvia, joissa olisi vaikkapa graffitimaalauksia tai valomainoksia taustana.

I made currently trending cat ear beanies and matching scarves for Noan and Yun. (I unfortunately do not have any photos of Yun's beanie and scarf yet, but they are pink matching the hair.) It was fun that for once there was no need to worry about decreases nor really count the stitches. These are so quick to make that I could make an endless number of them. :D I used alpaca wool yarn (Drops Air) for these and it was so soft that I probably must buy a few more balls and knit or crochet something to myself too (not a sponsored ad).

In this photo, I was seeking a colour theme as well as layering and depth created by straight edges. Photography in urban environment is slightly outside my comfort zone, but the photo turned out better than expected and I am glad that I tried this. Noan does fit particularly well in urban environment, so in the summer, I would like to take some photos with graffiti or illuminated signs in the background, for example.

Kävin taas kuvaamassa hautausmaalla tällä kertaa mukanani Albireo ja Laura. Tämä on ensimmäinen kerta, kun julkaisen postauksessa kuvan Albireosta, vaikka nukke on hengaillut täällä jo yli vuosikolmanneksen. Nuken kuvaaminen on kyllä inspiroinut, mutta en ole ollut ottamiini kuviin tarpeeksi tyytyväinen. Olen lisäksi halunnut kuvata nukkea nimenomaan stock-vaatteissaan, mikä on myös hieman rajoittanut kuvaamista, sillä mihinkään arkiseen ympäristöön näitä on vaikea saada sopimaan. (Toki tällainen voisi olla tarinankerronnallisesti hauska kuva. :D Näyttelijä tauolla roolipuvussaan, larppaaja ruokailemassa tai jotain...) 

Tein Lauralle uudet vaatteet viime vuoden puolella. Nuken stockit ovat kyllä todella nätit, mutta tämä asu sopii nuken hahmolle paremmin. Tarkoituksena on tosin kuvata myös stockeja jossain vaiheessa, kuvaideatkin ovat jo valmiina. Uusi asu koostuu mekosta, korsettivyöstä, hilkasta ja hartiahuivista (sekä stock-kengistä). Olen tässäkin mahdollisuuksien mukaan käyttänyt kierrätettyä materiaalia: esim. hilkan rusetit ja nauhat on otettu talteen lahjapakkauksista, vaatteiden hintalapuista, tms. ja vyö tehty kirpputoritapahtumasta ilmaiseksi saadusta pienestä jämänahkapalasta.

I went to take photos at the cemetery again, this time with Albireo and Laura. This is the first time I post a photo of Albireo even though I have had the doll for over a third of year. I have had inspiration to photograph him, but I have not been happy enough with the photos I have taken. In addition, I have wanted to take photos of the doll in stock clothes specifically, which has somewhat limited the photographing since the clothes are difficult to make fit into an everyday setting. (On the other hand, this could be a fun idea in terms of storytelling. :D An actor taking a break in his costume, a LARPer dining, or something...)

I made new clothes for Laura sometime at the end of last year. The doll's stock clothes are very pretty, but this outfit suits doll's character better. I intend to take photos of the stock clothes at some point as well, though; I already have ideas for photoshoots. The new outfit consists of a dress, a corseted belt, a bonnet, and a shawl (as well as the stock shoes). I have used recycled materials here too when possible: e.g., the bows and the ribbons have been saved from gift boxes, price tags of clothes, etc. and the belt is made of a small leftover piece of leather I got for free from a flea market event.

Olen niin ilahtunut siitä, miten Laura näyttää näissä kuvissa aivan omalta (toistaiseksi nimettömältä) hahmoltaan. En ollut edes suunnitellut näitä kuvia mitenkään, vaan huomasin vain, miten kivalta tuo aita näytti auringon laskettua kuvausretken aikana otolliselle korkeudelle. Sinänsä hauskaa, että juuri ne reissun ainoat ex tempore -kuvat onnistuvat parhaiten. Olen erityisen ihastunut tuohon lähikuvaan, joten tiedän jo nyt, että siitä tulee ainakin toistaiseksi se kuva, jonka postaan aina kun tarvitsen kuvan tästä nukesta nukkeprofiileihin, Instagramin storyihin, jne. Teitä on varoitettu. >:D

I saved my favourite photos for last. :D (They are also chronologically the last ones, though.)

I am so pleased with how Laura looks just like her (for the time being nameless) character in these photos. I had not even planned these photos in any way, I just happened to notice how nice that one fence looked when the sun had set to an optimal angle during the photoshoot trip. It is kind of funny how the only extempore photos of the trip were the ones that turned out the best. I am especially fond of that close-up, and I already know that at least for now, it is going to be the photo I post whenever I need a photo of this doll whether it is for doll profiles, Instagram stories, etc. You have been warned. >:D

 

Lopuksi taas yleisiä kuulumisia:

Tällä hetkellä minua inspiroivia asioita ovat erityisesti uudet klassisen musiikin soittolistani sekä Pui Pui Molcar -tv-sarja. En ole huovuttanut mitään vuosiin, mutta katsotaan, alkaako tämän sarjan takia huovutus taas innostaa. Olisi kyllä hauskaa huovuttaa oma Molcar. ^^ Lisäksi innostaa viikonlopun Tampere Kuplii -tapahtuma sekä totta kai uudet nukkehankintani: tilaamani Miku LOL-versio ja Black Mao saapuivat juuri eilen. En ole ehtinyt avata vielä paketteja, mutta nuket näyttävät upeilta paketeissaankin. Miku LOL innostaa niin paljon ehkä siksi, että kyseessä on vanha ja suosittu julkaisu (klassikko!), jota on nähnyt koko nukkeharrastuksen ajan. Aina on miettinyt, että ehkä joskus minäkin hankin oman Mikun ja nyt sitten viimein minullakin on tämä julkaisu. :> Black Mao innostaa ehkä juuri päinvastaisista syistä: kyseessä on tuore julkaisu, josta en ole vielä nähnyt paljoa kuvia, mutta siitä huolimatta julkaisu kolahti välittömästi. Uusista julkaisuista tulee minulle vain harvoin heti näin vahvaa tunnetta, joten tässä julkaisussa on varmasti tehty ainakin jotain oikein. :D

Tuntuu oudolta, että nyt on virallisesti jo kevät. Vaikka kevät on suosikkivuodenaikani, ei ole vielä yhtään kevätfiilis, enkä haluaisi talven loppuvan vielä. Liian monta talvikuva- ja talvivaateideaa on vielä toteuttamatta. Toisaalta odotan jo pajunkissoja ja pääsiäiskuvien ottamista. :>

 

Lastly, some general news again:

The things that especially inspire me currently are my new classical music playlists and the Pui Pui Molcar TV series. I have not felted anything for years, but we will see if this series makes me start felting again. It would be fun to felt my own Molcar. ^^ Additionally, I am excited about the next weekend's Tampere Kuplii event and of course about my new doll purchases: the Miku LOL version and Black Mao I ordered arrived just yesterday. I have not unboxed them yet, but they look already great even in their boxes. I am so excited about Miku LOL because it is an old and popular release (a classic!) that I have been seeing throughout my doll hobby. I have always thought that maybe someday I will get myself my own Miku, too, and now I finally have this release. :> I am excited about Black Mao maybe for the exact opposite reasons: it is a new release of which I have not seen that many photos yet and yet it struck with me immediately. New releases rarely give me such strong feelings right away, so I guess they certainly made something right in this release. :D

It feels weird that it is officially spring already. Even though spring is my favourite season, I am not in spring mood at all yet and I would not want winter to end just yet. There are too many winter photo ideas to take and winter outfit ideas to make. On the other hand, I am already waiting for the pussy willows and taking Easter photos.

Taeyang ReonHardt Review

Kasasin tämän arvostelun viimein kasaan, jotta saadaan helmikuullekin edes yksi postaus. :D Pahoittelut alkupään kuvien kehnosta valotuksesta; postauksen loppupuolella on parempia kuvia. 

Tilasin Taeyang ReonHardtin PullipStylesta viime syyskuussa samaan aikaan Isul Yunin kanssa. ReonHardt oli ollut toivelistallani, koska on sekä face-upiltaan että kokonaisuudeltaan mielestäni yksi kivoimmista Taeyangeista. Kun PullipStylen viimeinen kappale oli myynnissä sopivasti alennettuun hintaan ja olin joka tapauksessa samalla tilaamassa Yunia (myös alennettuun hintaan), oli aika toimia.

 

I finally put this review together so that there will be at least one post for February. :D Apologies for the poor exposure in the photos of the first half; there are better photos at the end of the post. 

I ordered Taeyang ReonHardt from PullipStyle last September at the same with Isul Yun. ReonHardt had been on my wish list due to being one of the nicest Taeyangs both in terms of face-up and overall whole in my opinion. When the last one in PullipStyle was on conveniently reduced price and I was going to order Yun anyhow (also on reduced price), it was time to act.

Nuken laatikko on miellyttävän värinen, mutta muuta mainitsemisen arvoista laatikossa ei juuri olekaan: laatikossa on samanlaiset kehykset ja kuviointi kuin Taeyangien laatikoissa yleensäkin. Tottumuksesta laitan silti muutaman kuvan: 

Besides its pleasant colours, there is hardly anything else worth mentioning about the doll's box: the box has the same frame and pattern as Taeyang boxes in general. However, I will post a few photos out of habit:

Nuken asu koostuu takista, kauluspaidasta, liivistä, housuista, rusetista, sukista ja kengistä. Kaikki asun osat ovat irrotettavissa. Nuken mukana ei tule ylimääräisiä tavaroita tai vaatteita (telinettä ja aitouskorttia lukuun ottamatta).

The doll's outfit consists of suit jacket, shirt, vest, trousers, bowtie, socks, and shoes. All parts of the outfit can be detached. The doll does not have any extra items or clothes (apart from the stand and the authenticity card).

Laatikosta vapautunut... / Freed from his box...

Pidän nuken face-upissa siitä, että tummien värien käytöstä huolimatta face-upin ilme on lempeä. Mustaa ja tummanruskeaa silmien ympärillä on pehmennetty vaaleanpunaisella blushilla, valkoisilla yksityiskohdilla ja käyttämällä punaista silmänrajauksissa ja alaripsissä, minkä takia face-up on näyttävä ja ilmeikäs, mutta samaan aikaan myös herkkä. Lisäksi silmän sisäkulmissa on käytetty samaa keltaista blushia kuin mitä poskissa. Silmäluomet sen sijaan ovat värittömät rajausta lukuun ottamatta. Nuken kulmakarvat alkavat leveähköinä, mutta kapenevat kulmien häntiä kohden. Silmien chipit ovat väriltään tasaisen tummansiniset ja niihin on maalattu valkoiset ja (mielenkiintoisesti) keltaiset heijastukset.

Sinänsä hauskaa, että olen aiemmin pitänyt ReonHardtin face-upia suhteellisen neutraalina, mutta nyt kun omistaa nuken itse niin huomaa, että face-upin neutraalius syntyy monen melko rohkeankin elementin summasta. Lisäksi huomaan, että minulla on selvät preferenssit, mistä nukeissa pidän, sillä tuntuu, että olen sanonut nämä samat kommentit jo useammassa kirjoittamassani arvostelussa. 

 

What I like about this doll's face-up is that despite the use of dark colours, its expression is gentle. The use of pink blush, white details and red in the eyeliner and lower lashes soften the black and dark brown shades around the eyes, which makes the face-up attention-getting and expressive but delicate at the same time. Additionally, the same yellow blush has been used on both inner corners of the eyes and the cheeks. The eyelids, on the other hand, are colourless except for the eyeliner. The doll's eyebrows start wide, but become narrower towards the tails. The eye chips have flat dark blue colour and have white and (interestingly) yellow catchlights painted on them. 

I find it funny that I used to view ReonHardt's face-up as relatively neutral, but now when I own the doll myself, I see that the neutrality comes from a combination of many elements, some of which are even rather bold. In addition, I now notice that I have a clear type for dolls, because it feels like I have said these same comments already in several reviews I have written.

 

Peruukkiin en ole yhtä tyytyväinen kuin mitä face-upiin. Pidän peruukin väristä ja ideasta, mutta toteutus ei mielestäni ole mitä parhain. Ensinnäkin otsahiusten kanssa on ollut ongelmia: osa hiuksista on ilmeisesti taittunut ollessaan pitkään puristuksissa paketissa, eivätkä pysy nyt siististi kummallakaan puolella jakausta. (Voisin toki yrittää askarrella nämä kuntoon, mutta olen mahdollisesti joka tapauksessa vaihtamassa nuken peruukkia, joten motivaatio ei ole riittänyt tähän.) Toinen ongelma on peruukin hämmentävät kerrokset (ks. kuva alla). En tiedä, onko tässä ollut pyrkimyksenä ohentaa peruukkia, mutta superlyhyet kerrokset näyttävät minusta kummallisilta erityisesti pitkien otsahiusten päällä. Vielä viimeisenä huomautuksena että peruukkia on hankala saada pysymään samassa kampauksessa kuin promokuvissa. Tämä ei tosin itseäni haittaa (kunhan nuo otsahiukset pysyisivät edes jollain tapaa kurissa...)

I am not as happy with the wig as I am with the face-up. I like the colour and the idea of the wig, but I do not think it has the best possible execution. Firstly, I have had problems with the fringe: some strands of hair have apparently bent after being compressed in the box, and now they will not stay neatly on either side of the parting. (Of course, I could try to fix these, but I am probably going to change the wig anyway, so I have not had enough motivation for this.) The second problem is the wig's confusing layers (see image below). I am not sure, if the attempt here has been to thin the wig, but the super short layers look weird to me, especially on top of the long fringe. As the last remark, it is difficult to make the wig stay in the same style as in the promotional pictures. However, I am not bothered by this (as long as that fringe would stay under control at least somehow...)

Vaatteissa on käytetty eri värejä ja kuoseja, mutta nämä kaikki ovat sen verran neutraaleja, että ne sopivat yhteen ja kokonaisuus näyttää harkitulta ja tyylikkäältä. Puvun takki ja housut ovat ruskeaa liituraitakangasta, mutta liivi on punaruskea ja kuvioitu neljän valkoisen pisteen muodostamilla vinoneliöillä. Samaa kangasta on käytetty myös taskuliinassa. Takkiin on muuten tehty vuori erilaisesta raidallisesta kankaasta – arvostan tällaisia yksityiskohtia. :> 

Puvuntakkia ei valitettavasti saa kiinni, mutta toisaalta se ei haittaa tässä asukokonaisuudessa. Liivin tarranauhakiinnitys sen sijaan näyttää hieman kömpelöltä, sillä tarranauha ei pysy tiiviisti kiinni, minkä takia se jää hieman näkyviin. Lisäksi liivin napit vaikuttavat nuken mittakaavaan ja takin nappeihin verrattuna vähän liian isoilta, mutta muuten olen tyytyväinen.

Paita on sinistä, todella ohutta kangasta. Paidasta näkyy kirjaimellisesti läpi (ks. alemmassa kuvassa nuken olkaniveltä), mutta toisaalta kankaan ohuus parantaa päällimmäisten vaatekerrosten istuvuutta. Rusetti on tehty raidallisesta nauhasta ja siinä on paidan tavoin tarranauhakiinnitys. Yleisesti ottaen vaatteet vaikuttavat laadukkailta joitakin huolittelemattomia langanpätkiä lukuun ottamatta. 

 

Several different colours and patterns have been used in the clothes, but they all are neutral enough to go together and the outfit looks like a stylish and elegant whole. The jacket and the trousers of the suit are made of brown pinstripe fabric, but the vest is maroon and patterned with diamond shapes consisting of four white dots. The same fabric is also used in the pocket square. By the way, the jacket has a lining that is made of different kind of striped fabric – I appreciate this kind of details. :>

Unfortunately, the suit jacket cannot be closed, but on the other hand, that is not needed in this outfit. The velcro fastening of the vest, on the other hand, looks a bit clumsy, because the velcro does not close tightly enough which leads it being slightly visible. Additionally, the buttons on the vest seem slightly too big when compared to the doll's scale and the buttons on the jacket, but besides that I am happy with it. 

The shirt is made of blue, extremely thin fabric. The shirt is literally see-through (see the doll's shoulder joint in the lower photo), but on the other hand, the thinness of the fabric improves the fit of the top layers of clothing. The bowtie is made of striped ribbon and has a velcro fastening like the shirt. In general, the clothes seem to be of high quality apart from some unfinished snippets of thread.

Muovi toimii hyvin materiaalina näissä kengissä: Se mahdollistaa saumojen ja nauhojen yksityiskohdat ja on ainakin kestävää (toisin kuin joidenkin stock-vaatteiden huonomaineinen tekonahkamateriaali). Lisäksi pidän siitä, että muovista tulee kenkiin kiva kiiltonahkaefekti.

Plastic works well as a material in these shoes: It makes fine details of the seams and shoelaces possible and is at least durable (unlike the infamous pleather material of some stock clothes). In addition, I like how the plastic creates a nice patent leather effect to the shoes.

Kaiken kaikkiaan olen tyytyväinen nukkeen hankalasta peruukista ja muutamista pikkuvioista huolimatta. Kokonaisuus on toimiva, face-up on kauniisti ja kekseliäästi toteutettu ja vaatteet ovat helposti yhdisteltävissä muihin asukokonaisuuksiin, joten niille on varmasti paljon käyttöä. Erilaisten kankaiden käyttö tekee tästä julkaisusta ensinnäkin kiinnostavan ja tyylikkään, mutta lisäksi herättää uusia ideoita sen suhteen, mitä kaikkia uusia vaatekokonaisuuksia näitä käyttäen voi koota.

Pidän myös nuken kustomointipotentiaalista: koska face-upissa on samaan aikaan sekä neutraalia pehmeyttä että näyttävää voimakkuutta, nukesta saa tehtyä monenlaisia hahmoja. Itse asiassa kivojen ja tyylillisesti toisistaan suurestikin poikkeavien ReonHardtien kirjo Instagramissa oli yksi niistä tekijöistä, jotka vakuuttivat minut siitä, että oman ReonHardtin tilaaminen on oikea päätös. Kuten aiemmin mainitsin, olen itsekin harkinnut nukelle uutta peruukkia. Väri tulee luultavasti olemaan samankaltainen kuin nuken kulmakarvat, mutta mallia en ole vielä päättänyt. Joka tapauksessa haluan ennen peruukin vaihtoa vielä kuvata nukkea rauhassa stock-peruukin kanssa (jos tuo peruukki olisi edes sen verran yhteistyökykyinen...) 

Harmittaa, ettei minulla ole vielä paljoa julkaisukelpoisia kuvia tästä nukesta, vaikka avasin paketin jo jouluksi. Vika ei toki mitenkään ole nukessa vaan yleisessä aikaansaamattomuudessani. :P Nukke itsessään on kiitollinen kuvattava: nuo silmien ympärillä olevat varjostukset näyttävät hurjan kivoilta kuvissa ja face-upin värienkäyttö on minusta suorastaan nerokasta. Tämä on taas yksi sellainen julkaisu, jonka face-upiin miellyin jopa enemmän kuin kuvien perusteella saatoin odottaa. 

All in all, I am happy with the doll despite of the troublesome wig and some puny flaws. The whole is functional, the face-up is beautifully and innovatively done and the clothes can be easily mixed and matched in other outfits, so they will surely come in useful. The use of different fabrics makes this release firstly interesting and stylish, but additionally sparks new ideas in terms of what kind of new outfits can be built around these pieces. 

I also like the doll due to its customization potential: since the face-up has both neutral softness and prominent intensity in it, the doll can be used for many kinds of characters. In fact, the array of neat and stylistically diverse ReonHardts on Instagram was one of the factors that convinced me to order my own ReonHardt. As I mentioned earlier, I have considered getting a new wig for this doll myself. The colour will probably be similar to doll's eyebrows, but I have not decided the style yet and besides, I want to photograph the doll with the stock wig without rush first (if that wig could be cooperative enough for at least until then...)

It is a shame that I do not have many post-worthy photos of this doll yet, even though I unboxed him already for Christmas. By no means the fault is in the doll but in my general inefficiency. :P Photographing him is rewarding: the dark blushing around the eyes looks remarkably nice in photos and the use of colours in the face-up is downright ingenious in my opinion. This is another release whose face-up I ended up liking even more than I could expect based on photos.

Isul Yun Review

 

Tilasin Isul Yunin Pullipstylesta jo syyskuussa, mutta valaistusongelmien takia sain nämä kuvat otettua vasta joulukuussa ja tämän blogikirjoituksen viimeisteltyä vasta nyt. Yun on pitkään ollut yksi suosikki-Isuleistani Black Maon ja Glenin ohella, ja kun näin Pullipstylessä alennuksessa sekä Yunin että ReonHardtin (joka myös oli toivelistallani), en osannut kieltäytyä.

Myönnän heti alkuunsa, että tietämykseni kaikista idolijutuista, joihin tämä julkaisu nähtävästi perustuu, on täysi nolla. En siis osaa ottaa kantaa mihinkään idolireferensseihin, mikäli julkaisussa sellaisia on, vaan valitsin tämän julkaisun miellyttävän face-upin, chipien ja peruukin takia. Näistä lisää myöhemmin tekstissä, mutta ensin kuvia paketista:

I ordered Isul Yun from Pullipstyle already in the September, but due to problems with lighting I did not get these photos taken until December and this blog post finished up until now. Yun has been one of my favourite Isuls along with Black Mao and Glen, and when I saw both Yun and ReonHardt (also on my wishlist) at discounted price on Pullipstyle, I could not refuse. 

Firstly, I admit that my knowledge on idol stuff this release is apparently based on is completely nonexcisting, so I cannot comment on any idol references this doll possibly has. I simply chose this release by pleasant face-up, chips and wig. More about those later, but first some photos of the box:

Yun's box fits the theme very well and its colour scheme is flashy and stylish. I also like how the concert venue described on the box also continues inside the box with its spotlights and checkered floor.

Yunin mukana tuli punamusta huppari, revityt farkut, bomber-mallinen glittertakki, t-paita, sukat, kengät, mikrofoni, teline ja aitouskortti. Olen innoissani kahdesta mahdollisesta asukokonaisuudesta, sillä Yun on ensimmäinen Isulini, eikä minulla ole entuudestaan paljoa Isulille sopivia vaatteita. Mahdollisuus useampaan asukokonaisuuteen oli siis tervetullut. :>

Yun came with a black and red hoodie, ripped jeans, bomber jacket with glitter, T-shirt, socks, shoes, microphone, stand and the authenticity card. I am excited about two possible outfits as Yun is my first Isul and I do not have many clothes fitting Isuls yet. So, the possibility of several different outfits was welcome. :>

Grooven blogissa silmien väriä mainostetaan laivastonsinisenä, mitä nämä chipit eivät mielestäni ole laisinkaan. Ennemmin luonnehtisin väriä siniharmaaksi, joka tietyssä valaistuksessa taittunee hieman laventelinsiniseen. Chipit ovat kuitenkin mieluisat, vaikka väri ei Grooven blogitekstiä eikä prototyyppikuvia vastaakaan. Tämä tosin oli odotettavissa omistajakuvien perusteella. Olen todella mieltynyt näihin Pullipien realistisemman näköisiin chipeihin, joita on Yunin lisäksi esimerkiksi Seila Nocturnella ja Lauralla. ^^

Nuken nassumeikillä on itselleni aina eniten painoarvoa uutta nukkea hankittaessa, eikä Yun ollut poikkeus. Pidän siitä, miten utuisen pehmeä silmämeikki on, sillä se näyttää kuvissa luonnolliselta ja hillityt silmänrajaukset pääsevät erottumaan kauniisti. Ruskeansävyinen face-up on neutraali, mutta ei tylsä: peruukin, chipien ja face-upin muodostama kokonaisuus on mielestäni tasapainoinen ja onnistunut. Neutraali face-up sopii myös hyvin yhteen erilaisten vaatteiden kanssa, mikä on olennaista, kun nukella on kaksi väreiltään ja tyyleiltään poikkeavaa asukokonaisuutta. Face-upin soveltuvuus moniin eri tyyleihin on yksi niistä syistä, miksi Yun on mielestäni erinomainen valinta ensimmäiseksi Isuliksi. 

Kulmakarvat ovat pitkähköt, ja niiden sisäkulmaa on häivytetty ja varjostettu. Kulmat ovat suorat ja melko matalalla, mikä saa nukelle rauhallisen, vakavan tai mietteliään ilmeen. Toki kuvakulmalla ja poseerauksella nukesta saa myös juromman näköisen (ks. postauksen avauskuva). :D Silmäluomet ovat muun face-upin tavoin ruskeansävyiset. Ripsien pituus ja tuuheus yllätti!

Groove advertises the eyecolour as navy blue on their blog, but in my opinion, these chips are not navy at all. I would rather describe them as grey-blue which has a hint of lavender blue under certain lighting. However, even if the colour does not match Groove's blog text or prototype images, the chips are very nice, and the colour difference was expected based on owners' photos. I really like these more realistic-looking chips that for example Pullip Seila Nocturne and Laura also have. ^^

The face-up is always the most important thing for me when choosing a new doll and Yun was not an exception. I like how hazy and soft the eye make-up is as it looks natural in photos and the simple eyeliners can stand out beautifully. A face-up using shades of brown looks neutral but not boring: the wig, the chips and the face-up look balanced and make a tasteful whole. A neutral face-up also goes well with different clothes, which is essential for a doll that has two stock outfits that differ from each other both by colours and the style. Face-up's suitability for many different styles is one of the reasons why I think that Yun is an excellent choice for the first Isul.

The eyebrows are quite long, and they have blurred and contoured inner corner. The brows are straight and rather low, which creates a calm, serious or pensive expression to the doll. Of course, by using a different angle and pose, he can be made to look sulkier (see the opening photo of the post). :D The eyelids are brown like the rest of the face-up. The length and the volume of his eyelashes surprised me!

Peruukki vaikuttaa laadukkaalta: verkko ei näy mistään kohtaa, ja kampausta on helppo asetella mieleisekseen, sillä peruukki pitää muotonsa hyvin. Tämän tyylin lisäksi esimerkiksi sivujakaus onnistuu hyvin. Hiukset ovat pidemmät takaa, mikä kannattaa huomioida kuvatessa. (Osassa kuvissani takatukka jäi näkyviin hassuna töyhtönä. :'D) Alla olevassa kuvassa näkyy outo keltainen sävy, mutta se johtuu varjosta – peruukki on oikeasti tasaisen värinen.

The wig seems to be of high quality: the wig net is not visible anywhere and the hairstyle can be easily adjusted as the wig can maintain its styling pretty well. For example, in addition to this style, side-parting is easy to do. The hair is longer on the back, which should be taken into account when taking photos of him. (In some of my photos, his mullet was visible as a funny-looking tuft. :D) In the photo below, there is a strange yellow shade in the hair, but that is just a shadow – in reality, the colour is even.

Yun vaikuttaa olevan pukeutunut omiin fanituotteisiinsa, sillä hupparin printtinä on nuken kuva sekä tekstit "Love is Blind" ja "Savior". Hihat ovat tarkoituksellisesti hieman ylipitkät ja väreiltään epäsymmetriset, ja ruudullisella kangaskappaleella on luotu illuusio hupparin alla olevasta paidasta. Huppuun on kiinnitetty kaksi hakaneulaa ja hupun takasauma on osittain auki, jotta silmämekanismia pystyy säätämään ilman hupun riisumista. Huppari sopii myös Pullipille, joten tästä voi olla hyötyä myös pitkähiuksisten nukkejen kanssa... ;D 

Yun seems to be dressed in his own merch as the hoodie has an image of the doll as well as texts "Love is Blind" and "Savior" printed on it. The sleeves are intentionally slightly oversized and asymmetrical in colour, and a checkered piece of fabric creates an illusion of a shirt under the hoodie. There are two safety pins attached to the hood, and the hood's back seam is partially left open so that the eye mechanism can be adjusted without taking the hood off. The hoodie also fits Pullips, so this can be useful with long-haired dolls, too... ;D

Revityt farkut eivät onneksi näytä merkkejä purkautumisesta ainakaan toistaiseksi. Farkuissa ei ole taskuja, mutta ketju on kiva yksityiskohta, ja nämä tuntuvat hyvältä perusvaatteelta melkein minkä tahansa Isulin "vaatekaappiin". :D

The jeans have distressed design which luckily shows no signs of further damage yet. There is no pockets, but the chain is a cool addition. These seem like a good addition to almost any Isul's basic "wardrope". :D

Toiseen vaatekokonaisuuteen kuuluu glittertakki ja t-paita. Takissa on toimiva vetoketju ja positiivinen yllätys oli se, ettei glitteriä irtoa. Hihoissa on koristeina punaiset samettinauhat.

T-paidassa jatketaan fanituotemeiningillä, sillä paitaan on printattu "Isul" ja "Love You". Tykkään erityisesti tuosta T-paidan korkeasta kauluksesta. :>

The other outfit consists of a glittery jacket and a T-shirt. The jacket has a functioning zipper and I was positively surprised by the glitter not falling out. The sleeves are detailed with red velvet tapes.

The merch theme continues in the T-shirt as it has texts "Isul" and "Love You" as the print. I especially like the high neck of the T-shirt. :>

Muovikengät eivät yleensä ole suosikkejani, mutta nämä ovat yllättävän kelvolliset. :D Myös nämä ovat hyvä perusvaate lähes mille tahansa Isulille. Kengissä on tosin klassinen ongelma eli ne ovat liian isot ja putoavat jalasta helposti. Huomasin hiljattain, että uudella Isul-julkaisulla NAOlla on samalla muotilla tehdyt kengät (ainakin kuvien perusteella). Sukat sen sijaan ovat melko tiukat, joten niiden katoamisesta ei ole huolta. :'D

 

Plastic shoes are not usually my favourites, but these shoes surprisingly decent. :D Another good basic piece for almost any Isul. However, these shoes have the classic problem: they are too big and fall off easily. I recently noticed that the new Isul release NAO has his shoes made with the same mould (at least judging by the photos). The socks, on the other hand, are pretty tight, so there is no worry about accidentally losing them. :'D

Rehellisesti sanottuna nuken mukana tullut mikrofoni ei ole suosikkini: se pysyy nuken kädessä melko huonosti ja sitä on vaikea saada näyttämään realistiselta valokuvissa. Toisaalta ei sen niin väliä, sillä tällä propilla ei joka tapauksessa ollut vaikutusta ostopäätökseeni. Sanon vain, että toteutus olisi mielestäni voinut olla parempi.

 

To be honest, the microphone is not really my favourite: it stays in doll's hand poorly and making it look realistic in the photos is difficult. But then again, this prop did not really affect my decision to buy this doll, so I do not really mind. All I am saying that maybe the execution could have been better.

 

Yhteenvetona sanottakoon, ettei Isul Yun tuottanut pettymystä ja voisin suositella tätä julkaisua kenelle tahansa Pullip-keräilijälle. Tämä on tosiaan ensimmäinen Isulini, joten uuden nuken lisäksi olen innostunut uudenlaisen kropan tuomista mahdollisuuksista. (Hyvin posettaa!) Yun on hirmuisen nätti nukke, ja sopii hyvin ensimmäiseksi Isuliksi neutraalin, monenlaiseen tyyliin sopivan face-upin sekä käytännöllisten stock-vaatteiden takia. Vaikka koen vaatteiden lukuisat toisiinsa liittymättömät tekstit hieman huvittavina, on Yun kokonaisuutenakin kiinnostava ja teemalleen uskollinen julkaisu. (Jos nämä tekstit ovat joitain nerokkaita K-pop-referenssejä, joita en vain tajunnut, niin saa tulla valistamaan. :D) Seuraavana projektina onkin sitten varmaan Isul-kokoisten vaatteiden tekoa... ;D 

In conclusion, Isul Yun did not disappoint, and I could recommend this release to any Pullip collector. As this is my first Isul doll, I am also excited about the possibilities of the novel body. (He is easy to pose!) Yun is a very pretty doll, and a good first Isul due to his neutral, versatile face-up and practical stock clothes. Although I do find the numerous unrelated texts on his clothes a bit amusing, Yun is an interesting release as a whole and true to his theme. (If these texts are some clever K-pop references that I just do not get, please educate me. :D) The next project will probably be making Isul sized clothes... ;D
