(Almost) everything that happened in 2025

I have not been very active on the blog this year, even though a lot has happened during the year. Thus, the last post of the year will be a kind of recap, with a lot of photos taken during the year but not posted on the blog before. I will also look back at last year's recap post and the plans I made for this year, seeing which parts came true and which did not. Lastly, I plan my goals for the next year.

The biggest doll-collecting news of early 2025 was Timeless Tresure re-release of Seila in March. Seila being my very first and the holiest grail, you can imagine how exhilarated I was by announced re-release. However, due to several delays in production and shipping, I did not receive her until October. I did not mind, though; I was just overjoyed knowing that my grail was finally on her way! :D I will write more about her in a separate post next year in order to keep this recap brief. 

I did not take many photos during the winter, and my first proper photoshoot of the year was not until April (not counting e.g. taking photos for doll reviews). I thought My Melody was just perfect for an Easter photoshoot, since she is very Easter-coloured and well, also a bunny, haha. (Is this too on the nose??)

Cherry blossom season: my favourite time of the year! This time, I took photos of my Amaterasu Nendoroid. Ōkami is an extremely nostalgic game to me, and cherry blossoms and Amaterasu make such an iconic combo. I am also slowly trying to learn how to take better photos with my phone.

In August, I got to pre-order another grail as Timeless Treasure re-release of Nosferatu was announced. I have not received him yet, but he is apparently going to be shipped soon – I am so excited! 

A couple of years ago, when I returned to the hobby after a long hiatus, I made myself a promise to try to participate in doll meets. In October, I finally attended a meet for the first time in a very long time at Nippori. Seeing other people's dolls and creations in real life was really cool! :-)

Another season I did not want to miss was Halloween. I am actually really happy with how these photos turned out, especially the latter. Although, due to an unfortunate angle, only one "ear" of his cat-ear beanie is visible, making it look more like a black elf hat, haha. (Too bad I did not notice this until I was uploading the photos.)

Halloween was also the first time I took photos of my Kuromi. I find it funny that the first photos of My Melody were taken during Easter, and the first photos of Kuromi during Halloween, both celebrations being perfect fits for each character's colour scheme and aesthetics. Drafts of reviews for both My Melody and Kuromi are currently works in progress and will be posted probably next month.

Kotae Expo in November was one of the highlights of my year. I attended a doll meet on Saturday and Green's doll photography workshop on Sunday. 

For Saturday, I made Tilda a new outfit inspired by details of my own coord (such as blouse with an embroidered collar):

It was delightful to see so many uniquely styled dolls, and I had so much fun talking with everyone!

The doll photography workshop was fantastic: Green was super knowledgeable and helpful with everything! :-) I got a lot of good advice, and we got to use this awesome set up he had brought to the expo:

The end of the year was really eventful time for my doll collection with Pullip Momori, Cassie, and Yami joining the crew. I will make separate posts for each of them later. I also bought two Miku figures and a few Re-Ments, some of which I got to make use of in these Christmas photos:

Although the next photo did not turn out as I imagined, I wanted to share it anyway, because I like the idea and the setup. Now that I know what I would do differently, I might try retaking it next year and see if I can improve it.

Looking back at last year's goals, I can say that this was a successful doll year. Here is some reflection on them, along with plans for next year:

 

Doll collection 

 

I managed to get two of my grails (well, one is still on the way, but anyways). It was fun to read my one-year-old speculations about possible Pullip re-releases, being half-hopeful, half-sceptical about Seila. :D Currently, I am more hopeful than sceptical about Ende's re-release, since she is the only one missing from the vampire family. Knowing how popular Natsume, Lyla, and Glen are, I am keeping fingers crossed for their re-releases as well. Unfortunately, given that both Alura and Kühn were released as exclusives, them getting re-releases is probably unlikely. 

 

These six are the only older releases I am actively searching for, although if I happen to find Shinku for a good price, I might consider getting her. Then there are some models like Alfred, whose face-up I really like, but I am not that interested in the model as a whole or in owning their stock clothes. For these models, I am hoping to find a good deal on ones with missing accessories or such. Among newer releases, I find myself interested in Claudia and Eclata. However, Eclata already seems difficult to find, but then again, she is one of those models I would not mind getting incomplete if it means a more affordable price.

 

I actually surprised myself by not getting the re-released Bloody Red Hood. She is one of my all-time favourite releases and, in my opinion, one of the most iconic Pullips. And yet I just did not feel this re-release was a necessary addition to my collection specifically. Strange. We will see if I end up regretting this decision later. 

 

Nonetheless, I am currently very happy with my collection, and I believe that next year the focus will be more in customization. Last year, I planned to get new wigs and chips for Albireo and ReonHardt. I did find them suitable wigs, but they were both currently sold out, so I am waiting to see if they get restocked or if I need to find alternatives. I actually managed to get them new chips, although I have not changed them yet. I am going to do that once I also have the wigs ready. 

 

Anette (Meg) also got new chips and is currently waiting for her new wig to arrive. Once I get to changing them, she might also get the new obitsu I bought earlier this year. This is the first obitsu I own, so I am excited about all the new posing possibilities for photos and to see if I think rebodying is worth it. If so, some of my older dolls may also get obitsus. 

 

I also got new chips for Vivian (Classical Alice Sepia), but she too is waiting to get a new wig first; I have not found one with the right colour and style yet. I have plans to customize Cassie as well, but that might be postponed, as I want to prioritize other dolls and also photograph her with stock Callie first. I am also dreaming of making my first full custom doll, but due to the discontinuation of MIO kits I do not think that is going to happen anytime soon.

Sewing et cetera

I am happy with this year's sewing projects as well – it seems that doll meets are good for me also this way; wanting to finish a new project before a meet is a great motivator, haha. I am especially happy that I tried new techniques like embroidery. Next year, I want to expand my skills even further. For example, I recently got back into needle felting after a very long time, and I am already thinking what I can felt for my dolls. Maybe mittens? My collection is urgently missing winter clothes. In addition to those, I want to make more clothes for my Taeyangs and Isuls, who have been seriously neglected (so far, I have only made them scarves, hats, and other small accessories). 

 

I am also planning to try to sew clothes in different styles: Each of my dolls has their own aesthetics, hobbies, and lifestyles, and I want their "wardrobes" to concretely reflect that. For example, Anette being into upcycling, customizing clothes, and crafting in general, I would like to make her clothes with unique embroidery. This will not be an easy or quick task: it will take time to study different styles, think about my dolls' characters more thoroughly, find suitable materials, and maybe also learn new techniques. Creating clothes in styles I am not used to also means stepping out of my comfort zone. However, I feel that details like this will add a new layer of storytelling to my photos.

 

 

Photography 

I am also really happy with the progress I made in photography this year. One of my goals was to use props in a more diverse way, and looking back at photos I took this year, many of them do feature props of some sort. I am glad that I have managed to collect some basic prop essentials, like doll-sized furniture; I feel they make photographing indoors so much more interesting and fun. Next year I want to, in addition to collecting Re-Ments, craft some distinctive props myself and, more importantly, make a Pullip-sized roombox. 

 

Another goal was to incorporate more fantasy themes into my photos. I have not done this as much in practice as I have in planning new projects and seeking inspiration from e.g. books and games. Still, I do feel I have managed to attain a certain whimsical, storybook-like atmosphere in some of my photos, which I think aligns with that fantasy theme goal. I have also experimented more, avoiding relying too heavily on familiar angles and compositions and other habitual approaches. (I feel like playing Infinity Nikki has actually helped with this: in addition to obvious outfit inspiration, I have had fun with the in-game camera, playing with angles, lighting, and so on without actually having to put any physical effort, haha.) I think the next step toward more lively, whimsical and fantasy-like photos is utilising fishing line more in my setups. That is something I will focus on next year.

 

 

Other plans 

My other doll-related plans for this year included updating the blog theme and writing doll profiles. I have neglected those, but when it comes to blog's appearance, I am happy with my decision to switch to writing only in English: although I have published only one post in English-only before this recap, I already feel that changing language has helped creating a more polished look for the blog theme and menus. On a related note, I am having a bit of identity crisis with my current nickname and URL. I changed it earlier this year, and while I like it more than the previous one, it still feels a bit like a placeholder. I hope to find a nickname that better captures my aesthetics and sources of inspiration. This will probably require some further introspection regarding my style, like looking for recurring themes in my photos and such. I think it would also help with a new blog theme, having something to build around. 

I have also finally managed to name several of my dolls, which is already progress to their profiles! :D I am currently stuck on word building, specifically with deciding if I want my characters to be part of the same world and if not, how to divide them. My dolls have already many established relationships (who is related to who, who get along well, who do not, etc.) and splitting them up would disrupt that network, but then again, having only one world is somewhat limiting – what if I want both a realistic world and a fantasy world? Perhaps I should not worry about that too much for now; if my photos diverge from a later established "canon", I can treat them as crossover episodes or taking place in alternative universe, haha.

1. Finish writing doll reviews currently in drafts and be more active on this blog in general. (That includes reading and commenting on your blogs more actively...)
2. Attend doll meets again.
3. Make lots of doll clothes and explore different styles.
4. Try new things in photography. 
5. Continue customizing dolls and developing their characters.

Year 2024 and the plans for the future

Tämä vuosi – kuten blogin yhdestä ainoasta uudesta postauksesta voi huomata – on ollut nukkeilun kannalta hyvin hiljainen. Pyrin suhtautumaan tähän itsemyötätuntoisesti ja muistamaan, että hiljaisemmat vaiheet saattavat kuulua harrastamiseen, eivätkä nämä tee harrastuksesta vähemmän tärkeää tai arvokasta. Nukkeilen vapaaehtoisesti ja omaksi ilokseni, joten en ole vastuussa aktiivisuudestani kenellekään. Olen myös muistuttanut itseäni siitä, ettei ole olemassa vain yhtä oikeaa tapaa nukkeilla, vaan harrastamisen muodot voivat ja saavatkin vaihdella eri harrastajien ja tilanteiden välillä. Tänä vuonna harrastamiseni on sisältänyt pääasiassa nukkejen katselua ja tulevien projektien suunnittelua. 

This year – as you can tell from the single new post on the blog – has been very quiet for my doll hobby. I try to deal with this with self-compassion, reminding myself that quieter phases can be inherent to a hobby and do not make the hobby any less valuable or important. This is something I do voluntarily and for my own enjoyment, so I am not answerable for my level of activity. I have also reminded myself that there is not just one correct way to enjoy a doll hobby, but its forms can vary between hobbyists and situations. This year, my hobby has mainly consisted of admiring my dolls and planning future projects.

Hiljaisuudesta huolimatta tein vuoden aikana muutamia uusia hankintoja ja syksyllä Callie liittyi kokoelmaani. Huomasin kahden vuoden takaisessa postauksessani harkinneeni Cassien hankintaa ja muistelen, että olin silloinkin kahden vaiheilla, kumman näistä nukeista valitsisin. Pidän Cassien kulmakarvoista hieman enemmän, mutta en enää muista, oliko se syy, miksi alunperin suunnittelin Cassien hankkimista, vai liittyikö valintaan jotain muuta. Nyt joka tapauksessa päädyin Callieen, sillä pidin tämän vaatteista enemmän kuin Cassien. Nyt Cassiekin on tosin alkanut kiinnostaa uudelleen, sillä ihastuin Callien face-upiin täysin. Cassien hankinnassa houkutteleekin ensisijaisesti mahdollisuus hyödyntää face-upia ja kustomoida toinen nukeista uudella peruukilla ja chipeillä selvästi erinäköiseksi (vaikka kaksosten kuvaaminen voisi aluksi olla hauskaa).

Despite the inactivity, I made a few new purchases throughout the year, and in the fall, Callie joined my collection. I noticed I had considered getting Cassie in a post from two years ago, and I remember being indecisive about which of these dolls to choose then. I like Cassie's eyebrows a bit more, but I cannot remember if that was the reason I initially planned to get Cassie or if there was something else that influenced my decision. Anyhow, I ended up choosing Callie now, as I liked her clothes more than Cassie's. However, now Cassie has started to interest me again, as I completely fell in love with Callie's face-up. I am tempted to get Cassie particularly for the sake of opportunities to utilise the face-up while creating a distinctly different look with a new wig and chips (although photographing twins could be fun at first).

Aivan loppuvuodesta hankin myös NieR Chanin ja My Melody x HENNAKOn. Huomasin, että olen maininnut molemmat jo vuoden 2022 postauksessa tulevia hankintoja suunnitellessani. :D Figuurikokoelmani puolestaan kasvoi vuoden aikana yhdeksällä prize-figuurilla (joista suurin osa on Mikuja), yhdellä Nendoroidilla ja yhdellä Pop Up Paradella. Lisäksi hankin muutamia Re-Ment-huonekaluja nukeilleni.

At the very end of the year, I also got NieR Chan and My Melody x HENNAKO. I noticed that I had already mentioned both in a post from 2022 when planning future purchases. :D Meanwhile, my figure collection grew by nine prize figures (most of which are Mikus), one Nendoroid, and one Pop Up Parade. Additionally, I got a few pieces of Re-Ment furniture for my dolls.

Tuleva vuosi saattaa olla melko kiinnostava nukkehankintojen kannalta, sillä odotan innolla, mitä nukkeja Groove päättää julkaista uudelleen. Ensimmäisenä uudelleenjulkaistu Elisabeth antaa toivoa siitä, että voisin vihdoin saada lisättyä graalini Nosferatun kokoelmaani. Jos koko sarja julkaistaan uudelleen, harkitsen myös Enden hankkimista. Toinen itseäni kiinnostava Dal-uudelleenjulkaisu olisi Lyla. Pullip Monochrome Alicen julkaisu peruuntumisestaankin huolimatta osoittaa, etteivät erikoisjulkaisut ole poissuljettuja, joten jään myös seuraamaan, tulisivatko Creator's Label -graalini Glen ja Natsume uudelleen myyntiin. Toivon hartaasti Seilaa uudelleen myyntiin, mutta en tiedä, kuinka todennäköistä on saada uusi uudelleenjulkaisu näin lyhyen ajan sisällä, kun edellisestä on vasta muutama vuosi. Hinnoista päätellen ostajia kyllä löytyisi. 

The upcoming year might be quite interesting in terms of doll purchases, as I am looking forward to seeing which dolls Groove decides to re-release. The re-release of Elisabeth gives hope that I might finally be able to add my grail, Nosferatu, to my collection. If the entire series is re-released, I might also consider getting Ende. Another Dal re-release that interests me would be Lyla. Even though the release of Pullip Monochrome Alice was canceled, it shows that special releases are not off the table, so I will stay tuned to see if my Creator's Label grails, Glen and Natsume, are re-released. I am desperately hoping for Seila to come back on sale, but I am not sure how likely it is to get a new re-release so soon, as it has only been a few years since the last one. Judging by the prices, though, it seems there would be buyers.

Olin viime ja edellisen vuoden postauksissa suunnitellut MIO-kittien hankintaa ja full customien tekoa. MIO-kittien valmistuksen lopettaminen tosin laski huomattavasti innostustani full customien tekemiseen, joten nämä suunnitelmat jäävät toistaiseksi taka-alalle. Keskittynenkin ensi vuonna vain peruukkien ja silmien vaihtamiseen, ellei tilanne muutu. Tavoitteenani olisi saada vihdoin Albireolle ja ReonHardtille uudet peruukit ja mahdollisesti uudet silmät (tämä vielä harkinnan alla). 

In my posts from last year and the year before, I had planned to get MIO kits and make full customs. However, the discontinuation of MIO kit production significantly reduced my enthusiasm for making full customs, so these plans are set aside for the time being. Next year, I will probably focus only on changing wigs and eyes, unless the situation changes. My goal is to finally get new wigs for Albireo and ReonHardt, and possibly new eyes (this is still under consideration).

Olen aina ihaillut kuvia, joissa nukkejen ympäristö on sisustettu yksityiskohtaisesti, joten valokuvauksessa ensi vuoden tavoitteenani on hyödyntää proppeja monipuolisemmin. Haluaisin myös kokeilla tuoda kuviini enemmän fantasiateemoja sekä hankkia kuviollisia papereita ja pahveja taustoiksi. Ikuisuusprojektinani on edelleen saada blogin ulkoasu päivitettyä ja nukkejen profiilit kirjoitettua. Olen tähän liittyen harkinnut blogin päivittämistä jatkossa vain englanniksi. Alun perin halusin kirjoittaa suomeksi, sillä koin tarvitsevani tässä harjoitusta. Tällä hetkellä kirjoitan kuitenkin muita tekstejä suomeksi ja nyt englanti on kielistä se, jolla kirjoittaminen vaatisi enemmän harjoitusta. Vain yhden kielen käyttäminen blogissa myös siistisi ja selkiyttäisi tekstejä ja blogin sivuja. Lisäksi postauksien kirjoittamisessa olisi vähemmän vaivaa, mikä helpottaisi blogin aktiivisempaa päivittämistä. 

I have always admired photos where the dolls' environment is decorated in detail, so my next year's goal for photography is to use props with more diversity. I would also like to experiment with incorporating more fantasy themes into my photos and get patterned papers and cardboards for backgrounds. My still ongoing project is to get the blog’s appearance updated and the doll profiles written. Regarding this, I have been considering writing the blog only in English in the future. Initially, I wanted to write in Finnish because I felt I needed practice in it. However, I currently write other texts in Finnish, and now English is the language in which writing would require more practice. Using just one language in the blog would also refine and clarify the texts and blog pages. Additionally, writing posts would require less effort, making it easier to update the blog more actively.

Viime postauksesta on kulunut aivan liian pitkä aika. Olen pitänyt taukoa aktiivisesta nukkeilusta jonkin aikaa työ- ja opiskelukiireiden takia. Ajattelin silti koota yhteen joitakin tämän vuoden tapahtumia niin motivoidakseni itseäni kuvaamaan taas nukkejani enemmän kuin myös ilmoittaakseni blogin lukijoille, etten ole kadonnut harrastuksen parista lopullisesti – täällä ollaan!

Hi, everyone, long time no see!

It has been far too long since my last post. I have been on a break from actively participating in the hobby for some time due to being busy with my work and studies. Nonetheless, I thought of summing up some events that happened this year to both motivate myself to photograph my dolls more and let this blog's readers to know that I have not vanished from this community for good – I'm still here!

Maaliskuulta / From March

Ehdin pitää alkuvuodesta vielä muutamat kuvaukset talvimaisemissa. Näistä ehdoton suosikkini oli maaliskuinen retki hautausmaalle. Virkkasin ja kudoin nukeilleni pipoja, kaulahuiveja sekä villapaitoja ja maaliskuussa tilasin Isul Black Maon ja Pullip Hatsune Miku LOL -version, joiden hankintaa olin suunnitellut jo viime vuonna.

I still had time to have a few photoshoots in wintery settings at the beginning of the year. From these, my absolute favourite was a trip to a cemetery in March. I crocheted and knitted beanies, scarves, and jerseys for my dolls and in March I ordered Isul Black Mao and Pullip Hatsune Miku LOL version, the purchase of which I had already planned last year.

Otin huhtikuussa monia pääsiäiskuvia ja askartelin rekvisiittaa muun muassa polymeerimassasta, jota olinkin viime vuoden viimeisessä postauksessa toivonut taas kokeilevani. Toukokuussa kuvasin kirsikankukkia, mikä tuntuu olevan itselleni jokavuotinen pakollinen aihe.

In April, I took many Easter-themed photos, and I crafted props using for example polymer clay, which I had hoped to try again in the last post of last year. In May, I took photos of cherry blossoms, which seem to be a necessary annual subject to me.

Kesän kuvailut jäivät tänä vuonna viime vuotta vähemmälle töiden takia, mutta olen tyytyväinen niihin muutamiin kuviin, joita ehdin ottaa. Kaksi edellistä kuvaa jäivät aikaisemmin julkaisematta, sillä perfektionistisuudessani en aluksi pitänyt niistä. Kun aikaa on nyt hieman kulunut, pystyn arvioimaan niitä objektiivisemmin ja näkemään niissä myös hyvää. Heinäkuussa tänne muutti peräti kolme uutta nukkea: Pullip My Melody Pink Ver., Kuromi sekä Keres – samat nuket, joita olin viime vuoden uuden vuoden postauksessani suunnitellutkin. Lisäksi keskityin kesällä nukenvaatteiden tekoon.

This year, I took less summer photos than last year due to work, but I am happy with the few photos I had time to take. The previous two pictures were not published before, because being perfectionistic, I did not like them at first. Now, when some time has passed, I can judge them in more objective manner and see the good in them as well. In July, as many as three new dolls moved here: Pullip My Melody Pink Ver., Kuromi and Keres – the same dolls I had planned in my New Year's post last year. I also focused on making doll clothes in the summer.

Noanin uusi suosikkiasu / Noan's new favourite outfit

 

Elokuussa tänne muutti vielä Pullip Merori Tear Ver. (joka muuten tällä hetkellä inspiroi todella paljon). Olin pähkäillyt alkuperäisen Merorin ja Tear-version välillä kauan, mutta Tear-version ilmestyminen Mandarakeen edulliseen hintaan ratkaisi ongelman. Kävin vielä ennen pahimpia syyssateita kuvaamassa Noania uudessa asussaan: topin, hameen, paidan ja vyön olen tehnyt itse, loput ovat Noanin stockeja. Tämäkin kuva jäi tosin aikaisemmin julkaisematta, koska en ollut tyytyväinen siihen. Yritän tässä siedättää itseäni pienille virheille ja näin herätellä taas kuvaamismotivaatiota. :D

In August, I bought one more doll, Pullip Merori Tear Ver. (who, by the way, is inspiring me a lot at the moment). I had been torn between original Merori and Tear Version for a long time, but when Tear Version appeared at Mandarake at an affordable price, my problem was solved. Just before the heaviest autumn rains, I went to take photos of Noan in her new outfit: I made the top, skirt, shirt, and belt myself, the rest are from Noan's stocks. However, this photo, too, was left unpublished before as I was not happy with it. I am currently trying to make myself more tolerant to small mistakes and thus reawaken my motivation to take photos again. :D

Näiden kuvien jälkeen motivaatio nukkejen kuvaamiseen katosi. Tässä harmittaa erityisesti se, että loppuvuoden teemakuvat (erityisesti halloween- ja joulukuvat) jäivät välistä. Motivaation katoamiseen vaikuttivat kiire ja uupumus, mutta myös edellä käsitelty tyytymättömyys aiempiin kuvausyrityksiin. Lisäksi uskon, että Pullip Suomen lakkauttamisella oli myös suora vaikutus motivaatiooni: foorumin selailu oli pitänyt harrastuksen aktiivisena mielessäni, innostanut ja antanut inspiraatiota. Vaikka muita kanavia olikin olemassa, en oppinut olemaan niillä yhtä aktiivinen kuin mitä foorumilla. Ensi vuonna aion opetella ja pyrin käyttämään sen kirjoitusinnon, jonka olisin aiemmin suunnannut foorumiin, nyt esimerkiksi blogiini.

After these photos, my motivation to photograph dolls disappeared. I am mostly disappointed about missing the theme photos of the end of the year (especially Halloween and Christmas photos). The loss of motivation was caused by being busy and exhausted but also the dissatisfaction with previous photoshoot attempts discussed above. I also believe that the end of Finnish Pullip forum had a direct effect on my motivation: browsing the forum had kept the hobby actively in my mind, encouraged me and inspired me. Although there were other platforms, I had not learnt to be as active on them as on the forum. Next year, I am going to learn and try to use the same enthusiasm for writing that would have previously been targeted at the forum, now for example to my blog.

Vuoden takaisessa postauksessa olin miettinyt tulevia nukkehankintoja ja oli mukavaa, että suuri osa näistä oli toteutunut vuoden aikana. Vuosi alkoi 10 nuken kanssa, nyt niitä on 16. Ensi vuonna on tulossa monta postausta näistä uusista nukeista. :D Olen tällä hetkellä tyytyväinen kokoelmaani ja mitään varsinaisia pakkohankintoja ei ole mielessä graaleja – Seilaa, Natsumea ja Nosferatua – lukuun ottamatta. Toisaalta olen jo hyväksynyt, ettei näitä välttämättä ole tulossa kokoelmiin missään lähitulevaisuudessa. Seilakaan ei enää ole mielessä koko ajan. Ehkä pienen tauon pitäminen harrastuksesta on tässä mielessä ollut hyvä asia, sillä nukkekuvia jatkuvasti selaillessa on helppoa pahentaa itse huomaamattaan omaa nukkekuumettaan. Tauon jälkeen omaa kokoelmaa on ehkä helpompi tarkastella objektiivisemmin. Daleista vielä Ende ja Lyla ovat sellaisia, että voisin hankkia, jos ikinä tulevat vastaan maltillisella hinnalla. Lisäksi MIOt kiinnostavat edelleen.

In the post I wrote a year ago, I had thought about my plans for doll collection in future and it was nice to see that many of these had come true during the year. I started my year with 10 dolls, now I have 16. Next year, there will be many posts about these new dolls. :D I am happy with my current collection, and I do not have any requisite purchases in mind, apart from my grails Seila, Natsume and Nosferatu. On the other hand, I have already accepted that these will probably not be joining my collection anytime soon. Even Seila is not on my mind all the time. Maybe a short break from the hobby was a good thing in this sense as it is easy to make your craving for certain dolls worse without realizing it when you are constantly browsing doll photos. After a break, it is maybe easier to look at your collection more objectively. Ende and Lyla are still Dals I could get if I ever spot them at a reasonable price. I am also still interested in MIOs.

Figuurikokoelma kasvoi vuoden aikana viidellä Prize-Mikulla ja lisäksi hankin figuureja Pui Pui Molcar -sarjasta. Molcar-figuurien kuvaamiseen tuli suuri innostus Tomoki Misaton twiittaamista kuvista (esimerkiksi tämä), joten toivon mukaan näitä nähdään blogissa ensi vuonna. 

My figure collection grew with five Miku prizes during the year and I also got some figures from Pui Pui Molcar series. The photos tweeted by Tomoki Misato (this, for example) strongly inspired me to take photos of Molcar figures, so hopefully these will be seen on the blog next year.

Viime vuoden postauksessa suunnittelemani blogin ulkoasun päivitys, nukkejen nimien päättäminen ja profiilien kirjoittaminen ovat vielä suurilta osin kesken, joten nämä siirtyvät ensi vuoden tavoitteiksi. Olin myös suunnitellut joidenkin nukkejen ulkonäön muuttamista (ainakin Albireoni on saamassa uuden peruukin jossain vaiheessa) ja nukkekokoisten huonekalujen rakentamista, mutta nämäkin jäävät ensi vuoteen. Nukenvaatteita tein ehkä määrällisesti vähemmän kuin olin odottanut, mutta vuoden aikana opettelin uusia tekniikoita, kehityin kaavoituksessa ja kokeilin uusia materiaaleja. Olen tyytyväinen moniin aikaansaannoksiini (esimerkiksi tuohon Noanin uuteen asuun, erityisesti toppiin ja vyöhön) ja sain mukavan palautteen takia lisää itsevarmuutta omiin kykyihini, joten katson kuluneen vuoden vaatteiden teon kannalta onnistuneeksi.

The updated look of the blog, deciding names for my dolls and writing profiles, which all were planned in the last year's post are still largely uncompleted, so these will become next year's goals. I had also planned on changing the appearance of some of the dolls (at least my Albireo will be getting a new wig at some point) and building some doll-sized furniture, but these too will be left for next year. I probably made less doll clothes than I had expected, but during the year I learnt new techniques, improved in pattern making and tried new materials. I am happy with many of my accomplishments (for example, Noan's new outfit, especially the top and the belt) and I gained more confidence in my skills because of the nice feedback I got, so I consider the past year a success in terms of making clothes.

Näin vuoden lopussa päätin omaksi ilokseni kirjoittaa pienen tiivistelmän siitä, mitä kaikkea tänä vuonna on tapahtunut ja mitä tuleva vuosi mahdollisesti tuo tullessaan. Lisäksi postaan uudelleen muutamia suosikkikuviani tältä vuodelta.

 As it is the end of the year, I decided to entertain myself by writing a little recap on what has happened this year and what will possibly happen the next one. I am also reposting some of my favourite photos from this year.  

 

Nukkeharrastuksen pariin palaaminen / Returning to the hobby

Postauksen aloituskuva on toukokuulta ja ensimmäinen, jonka otin pitkän tauon jälkeen. Nukkeiluharrastus oli jäänyt taka-alalle vuosien ajaksi kiireiden takia, mutta innostus nukkeiluun oli vielä tallella. Kesäkuun alussa perustin Instagram-tilin esitelläkseni tekemiäni nukenvaatteita ja ottamiani valokuvia sekä verkostoituakseni muiden harrastajien kanssa. Näihin aikoihin aktivoiduin myös Pullip Suomi -foorumilla. Harrastuksen pariin palatessa minulla oli kolme nukkea: Merl, Nella ja uusimpana Classical Alice Sepia, jonka olin hankkinut vuonna 2015. Viime hankinnoista oli siis kulunut aikaa jo jonkin verran, kun päätin heinäkuussa tilata kaksi suosikkiani uudemmista julkaisuista, Pullip Noanin ja Seila Nocturnen. Havaitsin, että minulla riitti paljon enemmän puhuttavaa uusista hankinnoistani kuin mitä Instagramiin oli mahdollista kirjoittaa, minkä seurauksena päätin perustaa uuden blogin. Tätä postausta kirjoittaessani blogin bannerina on tämän postauksen aloituskuva, sillä heinäkuussa minulla ei ollut vielä sopivampia uusia kuvia. Väliaikaiseksi tarkoitettu banneri onkin sitten vain jäänyt tuohon... :D Nyt voisi olla sopiva aika blogin ulkoasun ilmeen muutokselle.

The opening photo of the post is from May and the first photo I took after a long break. I had been inactive in this hobby for years due to being busy with other things, but the enthusiasm was still there. At the beginning of June, I started an Instagram account to showcase the doll clothes I had made and the photos I had took as well as to network with other enthusiasts. Around this time, I also became active on the Finnish Pullip forum again. When I made my return to this hobby, I had three dolls: Merl, Nella and the newest addition, Classical Alice Sepia, which I got in 2015. So, some time had passed since my last doll purchase when in July I decided to order my favourites from the newer releases, Pullip Noan and Seila Nocturne. I realized that I had much more to say about these new purchases than it was possible to write on Instagram. Therefore, I decided to start a new blog. As I am writing this post, the blog's banner is still the same as this post's opening photo, because in July I did not have more suitable new photos, yet. Then the banner which was meant to be a temporary placeholder was just forgotten there... :D I guess it would be a good time to change the appearance of the blog.

 

Nukkekokoelman tilanne ja haaveilua / Current doll collection and daydreaming

Heinäkuussa kokoelmani käsitti siis viisi nukkea, mutta jotenkin tämä määrä ehti loppuvuoden aikana vielä kaksinkertaistumaan (joskin harkituilla ostoksilla). Elokuussa hankin Megin, syyskuussa Yunin ja Reonhardtin, lokakuussa Lauran ja marraskuussa Albireon. Vuoden aikana sain siis suuren osan toivelistastani toteutettua, eikä suunnitelmissa ole enää kovin montaa uutta hankintaa. Pullipeista ainoa selvä graali on Seila, vaikkakin haaveilen Alurasta Lauran kaveriksi. Lisäksi olen miettinyt jotain julkaisua tummilla meikeillä ja tuimemmalla ilmeellä. Keres vaikuttaisi olevan kokonaisuudessaan suosikkini tällä hetkellä, vaikkakin olen miettinyt myös Wilhelminaa ja Mad Hatter in Steampunk Worldia. Myös Principessa on kiinnostanut, mutta esteenä on ollut stock-vaatteiden tekstuuri, josta en pidä laisinkaan. Tämän takia uusista julkaisuista Manasta tuli heti suosikkini, koska nukessa on paljon samaa kuin Principessassa, mutta lisäksi vielä upeat stockit. Kahta nukkea tummansinisillä meikeillä en kuitenkaan ole hankkimassa, sillä minulle on tärkeää, että kaikki kokoelmani nuket erottuvat toisistaan riittävästi – "riittävä" on toki melko epätarkka määritelmä :D – ja tällä hetkellä Keres näyttäisi todennäköisimmältä nukkelisäykseltä.

In July, my collection consisted of five dolls, but somehow the number had doubled by the end of the year (albeit with deliberate purchases). In August I got Meg, in September Yun and Reonhardt, in October Laura and in November Albireo. Thus, during the year I managed to obtain a large part of my wish list, and I am not planning on making many new purchases anymore. At the moment, the only true grail of Pullips is Seila, although I am dreaming of Alura to accompany Laura. I have also considered getting some release with dark make-up and stern look. Keres seems to be my overall favourite, although I have considered also Wilhelmina and Mad Hatter in Steampunk World. I have been interested in Principessa as well, but I do not like the texture of her stock clothes, which has felt like a deal breaker. This is why Mana instantly became my favourite of the new releases as this doll has similarities with Principessa but also absolutely wonderful stock clothes. However, I am not going to buy two dolls with dark blue make-up, because I find it important that all the dolls in my collection stand out adequately – "adequate" being admittedly a vague definition :D – and at the moment, Keres looks like the most probable doll addition.

Kereksen lisäksi haaveilen edelleen Pullip Hatsune Mikusta. Sinänsä nurinkurista, että olen vuosien aikana kasvattanut Miku-figuurikokoelmaani, mutta tätä Pullip- ja Miku-kokoelmani yhdistävää linkkiä en ole raaskinut ostaa. Tämä johtuu ehkä siitä, että vierastan hieman hahmojen tai henkilöiden pohjalta tehtyjä julkaisuja (aiemmin mainittu Mana mukaan lukien), koska tuntuu vaikealta nähdä tällaisia julkaisuja muina kuin "itseinään". En usko, että saisin ikinä kehitettyä näille nukeille muuta hahmoa ja tästä syystä esimerkiksi Rozen Maiden -julkaisut on jäänyt hankkimatta, vaikka Rozen-tytyillä paljon nostalgia-arvoa onkin. Mikua joutuisin siis kuvaamaan muista nukeista erillään, koska Miku ei "nukke-loreeni" sovi. :D Tämä siis liittyy pelkästään omaan mielikuvituksettomuuteeni, eikä minulla ei ole mitään sitä vastaan, että muut käyttävät hahmoihin tai henkilöihin perustuvia julkaisuja omina hahmoinaan.

In addition to Keres, I am still daydreaming about Pullip Hatsune Miku. It is kind of funny that during these years I have grown my Miku figure collection, and yet I have not dared to buy the link that would connect my Pullip and Miku collections. This might be because I seem to shun releases based on characters or real people (including previously mentioned Mana): I just find it difficult to see releases like this as anything else than what they are meant to be, and I feel like I could not come up with an original character for these dolls. This is why I have skipped for example the Rozen Maiden releases, despite their considerable nostalgic value. So, I would have to photograph Miku separately from the other dolls as Miku does not fit my "doll lore". :D To make this clear, this is about my lack of imagination and not that I would have anything against people using releases like this for their own characters.

Kokoelmastani puuttuu vielä sellainen totaalinen söpöily-Pullip kaikkia pastelliröyhelöprojekteja varten. Yhdessä kohtaa mietin The Secret Garden of White Witchiä, mutta uusi mahdollinen Angelic Pretty -prototyyppi kiinnostaa sen verran paljon, että jään odottamaan lisätietoja tästä julkaisusta. Sitten on vielä olemassa sellainen "ehkä"-lista, jolla ovat muun muassa Kühn, NieR Chan, My Melody x Hennako ja Kuromi. Tällä listalla olevissa nukeissa arveluttaa se, ovatko ne liian samanlaisia kokoelman muiden nukkejen kanssa ja riittääkö näille kuvausideoita. Lisäksi haluaisin vielä Pullipin, jolla on ruskean- ja/tai vaaleanpunaisensävyinen pehmeä ja lempeä meikki. Olen miettinyt esimerkiksi Angea, My Melody Pink Versionia ja Cassieta. Pitäisi vain päättää, mikä julkaisu on paras, sillä montaa tämän(kään)tyyppistä nukkea en aio ostaa. Kaiken lisäksi olisin vielä kiinnostunut toteuttamaan muutaman idean MIO-Pullipilla, mutta samalla pelottaa, että jos innostun customoinnista enemmänkin, niin tuleeko siitä loppua ollenkaan. XD

My collection is still missing a kind of cuteness overload Pullip for all my pastel ruffle projects. At one point, I was thinking of The Secret Garden of White Witch, but the new possible Angelic Pretty prototype got me so interested that I am going to wait for more information about this release. Then there is the "maybe" list on which for example Kühn, NieR Chan, My Melody x Hennako and Kuromi are. For dolls on this list, I am unsure if they would be too similar to other dolls in the collection and if I had enough photoshoot ideas for them. Additionally, I would like to have a Pullip with a soft and gentle-looking face-up with brown and/or pink shades. For example, I have considered Ange, My Melody Pink Version and Cassie, but I should decide which one it is as I am not going to buy several dolls of this kind (either). On top of everything, I am interested in actualizing a couple of ideas on MIO Pullips, but I am also scared that I get too excited about customizing and there will not be end in sight for new projects. 

Taeyangien ja Isulien suhteen toivelista on onneksi selvempi. Taeyangeista aidosti kiinnostavat enää Nosferatu ja Natsume, Isuleista Glen ja Black Mao. Valitettavasti tosin myös muutama Dal on alkanut kiinnostaa, vaikka olin vannonut, että Daleja en osta. Kyseessä ovat Lyla, Ende ja Joujou, mutta näitä pitää todella harkita, sillä hyllytila on rajallinen. :'D 

Luckily, my wishlists for Taeyangs and Isuls are clearer. For Taeyangs, Nosferatu and Natsume are the only dolls I am really interested in and for Isuls, Glen and Black Mao are the only ones. Unfortunately, I have also got interested in a few Dals despite having sworn that I will not buy any Dals. The releases in question are Lyla, Ende and Joujou, but this is something that still requires serious consideration, as the shelf space is limited. :'D

Tänä vuonna Nella sai uuden peruukin. Ensi vuonna pyrin ostamaan uuden peruukin ainakin Albireolle, ellei tässä käy samalla tavalla kuin Lauran kanssa: olin jo suunnitellut hankkivani tälle nukelle mustan pitkän keskijakauksellisen peruukin tai mustan mohairin, mutta sitten miellyinkin edellisen omistajan valitsemaan ostatukalliseen peruukkiin. Nyt pitää miettiä, viitsinkö oikeasti hankkia Lauralle uutta peruukkia sittenkään. Peruukkien lisäksi vaihto-chipien ja Obitsun hankkiminen kummittelee aina välillä mielessä. Toisaalta taas olen mitoittanut kaikki tekemäni vaatteet stock-kropalle, joten tämäkin päätös tarvitsee vielä harkintaa. 

This year Nella got a new wig. Next year I am going to try to buy a new wig for at least Albireo, unless what happened with Laura happens with him too: I had already planned to get Laura a long black wig with middle-parting or a black mohair wig, but then I ended up liking the wig her previous owner had chosen for her. Now I must think if I really want to get her a new wig after all. In addition to wigs, I am occasionally considering getting some new eyechips or an Obitsu body. On the other hand, I have measured all the clothes I have made to fit the stock body, so this decision too requires some further consideration.

Sanoin joskus aiemmin täällä blogissa, että yritän loppuvuoden aikana miettiä kaikille nukeille nimet... Siihen tavoitteeseen ei ihan päästy. Hahmojen taustat ja luonteenpiireet on tosin jo mietitty ainakin pääpiirteittäin, joten voisin alkaa kirjoittelemaan näitä puhtaaksi profiileihin, kun ehdin. (Tässä näyttää olevan nimien päättämisen ohella ensi vuoden tavoite. :D)

I have mentioned on this blog that I would try to come up with names for all my dolls by the end of the year... I did not quite reach that goal. However, the backgrounds and personality traits of their characters have already been thought of, at least in outline, so I could start writing these down on their profile pages, when I have time. (This sounds like the goal for the next year, along with the names. :D)

Olen tyytyväinen ompeluprojektien määrään tänä vuonna. Kaikkea ei toki kerennyt toteuttamaan ja osa projekteista jää ensi vuodelle, mutta pitää huomioida ajankäyttö ja olla realistinen. Sain kuitenkin aikaiseksi useamman asukokonaisuuden ja paljon erityyppistä vaatetta (arkivaatteita, mekkoja, päähineitä...) ja samalla koen kehittyneeni vaatteiden suunnittelussa ja kaavoituksessa. Ensi vuoden suunnitelmissa olisi tehdä ainakin talvivaatteita, housuja, kenkiä, takkeja, koruja ja lisää mekkoja. 

I am happy with the number of completed sewing projects this year. Naturally, I could not carry out all my ideas and some projects will be left for the next year, but I must consider the time available and be realistic. At least I managed to finish several full outfits and make a lot of clothes of different kinds (casual clothes, dresses, headwear...) and in process, I feel I have improved in designing and pattern making. My plans for the next year include at least making winter clothes, trousers, shoes, jackets, jewellery, and more dresses.

Ehdin myös tehdä muutamia miniatyyriesineitä. Käytin näissä lähes kaikissa materiaalina puuta, joten ensi vuonna olisi kiva kokeilla myös muita materiaaleja (esimerkiksi polymeerimassaa). Haluaisin yrittää myös isompien proppien tekoa: nuket tarvitsisivat ainakin pöytiä, tuoleja, yms. perushuonekaluja.

I also managed to make a few miniature items. I used wood as a material in almost all of these, so next year it would be fun to try other materials as well (polymer clay, for example). I would also like to try making larger props: my dolls would need at least tables, chairs, etc. basic furniture.

Vuoden aikana tuli koettua monia mieleenpainuvia kuvauksia. Oli hauskaa ja virkistävää kuvata tuttuja paikkoja "nukkenäkökulmasta" pitkästä aikaa. Samalla kuvaustekniikkani kehittyi niin kameran käytössä kuin nukkejen asettelussakin. Kokeilin rohkeammin uusia asioita ja koin iloisia yllätyksiä, kun monet kuvat onnistuivat jopa odotettua paremmin. Myös vanha kamerani sai päivitystä uudella linssillä vuoden lopulla. Ensi vuonna pyrin tietysti kehittymään vielä lisää. ^^ 

I experienced many memorable photoshoots this year. It was fun and refreshing to photograph familiar places from "doll's point of view" for a long time. At the same time, my photography technique improved both in use of the camera and in arranging the dolls. I dared to be more experimental and I experienced positive surprises when the photos turned out even better than expected. At the end of the year, my old camera got updated with a new lense, too. Next year I aim to improve even more, of course. ^^
