Hei taas kaikille. :>

Ehdin kirjoittaa vielä toisen postauksen tässä kuussa ja esitellä Nellan uutta asua, jonka mainitsin aikaisemmin. Sain tähän asuun inspiraation 1500-luvun puolivälin italialaisesta muodista. Koska en ole mikään historian enkä vaatetuksen asiantuntija, ei tarkoituksena ollut yrittää tehdä mitään historiallisesti tarkkaa jäljennöstä, vaan juurikin vain aikakaudesta inspiroitunut asu.

I had time to post for another time this month and show off Nella's new outfit I mentioned earlier. I got inspiration for this outfit from mid-1500s Italian fashion. Since I am no expert of history nor clothing, I did not attempt to make a historically accurate replica, but just an outfit inspired by the historical era.

Tämä sekä postauksen ensimmäinen kuva on otettu samasta puutarhasta kuin edellisen postauksen kuvat Megistä. Loput kuvat on otettu samalta hautausmaalta, jossa kuvasin Seila Nocturnea.  

This and the first photo of the post were taken at the same garden as the photos of Meg in the previous post. The rest of the photos was taken at the same cemetery where I photographed Seila Nocturne.

 

Täydellinen kangas mekkoon löytyi sattumalta Eurokankaan palakangaslaatikosta. Hunnun reunojen huolitteluun käytin jämäpitsin palasen, ja huntu pysyy päässä Pullipin pakkausmuovista tehdyllä pannalla. (Tiedättehän, sellainen läpinäkyvä taipuisa kaistale, jolla nukke on kiinnitetty pakettiin.) Hihoissa ja kaula-aukossa sekä hiuskoristeessa käyttämäni helmet ovat peräisin vuosien takaisesta Sinooperin loppuunmyynnistä. :D

A perfect fabric for the dress was found by chance in a scrap fabric box of Eurokangas. I used a piece of leftover lace to finish the edges of the veil, and the veil stays on thanks to a hairband made of plastic from Pullip packaging. (You know, the kind of transparent flexible strip that keeps the doll attached to the box.) The pearls used in sleeves, neckline and hair accessory are from closeout of Sinooperi years ago. :D

 

Haluaisin ehtiä kuvaamaan joulukuussa enemmän kuin mitä nyt. En ole mikään jouluihminen, mutta jostain syystä jouluiset nukkekuvailut ovat inspiroineet viime aikoina todella paljon. Niin paljon ideoita ja niin vähän aikaa. :'D No, jos edes muutamat kivat kuvaukset ehdin järjestämään, niin olen tyytyväinen. Auringonlasku jo kello kolmen jälkeen toki tuo omat haasteensa tähän... Joka tapauksessa: toivottavasti seuraavassa postauksessa ollaan jo talvisemmissa tunnelmissa, mutta jos ei niin minulla on edelleen julkaisemattomia kesäkuvia. :DD

I would like to be able to take more photos in December than now. I am not really a Christmas person, but for some reason Christmas themed doll photoshoots have inspired me a lot lately. So many ideas and so little time. :'D Well, if I manage to arrange even a few nice photoshoots, I will be happy. The sunset already after 3 pm certainly makes this all a bit more difficult... Anyways, hopefully in the next post we will have more wintery photos, but if not, I still have unpublished photos from the summer. :DD

Syyskuvien aika!

Vierailin paikallisessa esittelypuutarhassa Megin ja Nellan kanssa. (Nellan kuvat julkaisen myöhemmin.) Alun perin tarkoituksenani oli mennä jo kesällä, mutta en ehtinytkään. En kuitenkaan ole turhan harmistunut tästä, sillä mielestäni puutarha näyttää upealta myös syksyllä, kun monet puut ja kasvit ovat saaneet ruskavärityksensä. Puutarha on sitä paitsi varsin suosittu paikka kesäisin, joten kuvien ottaminen oli nyt helpompaa, kun ihmisiä oli vähemmän. Ehkä ensi vuonna tulee tilaisuus ottaa täällä myös kesäkuvia. Joka tapauksessa: tervetuloa seuraamaan Megin seikkailuja puutarhassa. :D

Time to post some autumn photos!

I visited a local demonstration garden with Meg (and Nella but I will post the photos of her later). I actually meant to go already in the summer, but in the end, I did not have time. I am not too disappointed about that, though, because I think the garden looks amazing in the autumn, too, when many trees and plants turn into their autumn colours. Besides, the garden is quite popular in the summer, so it was easier to take photos now when there were fewer people around. Maybe next year I get a chance to take some photos here in the summer as well. Anyways, welcome to follow Meg's adventure through the garden. :D

 

Tajusin, ettei minulla ole vieläkään kunnollisia kuvia Megistä stock-asussaan. Olin jo suunnitellut täydellisiä kuvauspaikkoja elokuulle, mutta olinkin silloin odotettua kiireisempi, joten nuo suunnitelmat jäivät toteuttamatta. Vaikuttaa siltä, että suosikkiasuni Megillä koostuvat Megin stockien ja Merliltä lainattujen vaatteiden yhdistelmistä. Baskerin virkkasin jämälangasta, jossa oli nipin napin tarpeeksi (huh), ja huivin kudoin bouclé-langasta. Uusien tekstuurien kokeilu nukeilla on hauskaa. ^^

I realized that I still do not have any proper photos of Meg in her full stock outfit. I had planned some perfect locations for photoshoots in August, but I turned out to be busier than I expected, so those never got carried out. Seems like my favourite outfits for Meg consist of her stock pieces as well as borrowed clothes from Merl's stock. I crocheted the beret out of leftover yarn that was just barely enough (phew) and her scarf is knitted from bouclé yarn. It is fun to experiment with different textures on dolls. ^^

Tämä on ihan täydellinen paikka kuvauksille pienten polkujen, kivien ja aitojen ansiosta – uusia ideoita tulee, minne tahansa katsoo. Vierailin puutarhassa itse asiassa kahtena päivänä, mutta ei silti vielä tunnu, että olisin tutkinut sen täydellisesti läpi. Kaksi seuraavaa kuvaa ei ole otettu puutarhassa, mutta postaan ne nyt joka tapauksessa, koska sopivat teemaan. Nuken neuletakki on itse tehty kuten myös toppi ja collegehousut. (Nämä näkyvät huonosti päällysvaatteiden alta, mutta lisää kuvia kesältä on tulossa... joskus.) Aurinkolasit, huivi ja pipo ovat Mildan Boutiquen.

The tiny paths, rocks and fences make this a perfect place for photoshoots – you get new ideas wherever you look. I actually visited the garden on two days, but I still do not feel that I have fully explored it yet.  The two following photos of Noan were not taken at the garden, but I post them here anyways because they kind of fit the theme. The doll's cardigan is made by me as well as the top and the sweatpants. (They cannot be properly seen under the outerwear, but more photos from the summer will be posted... someday.) Sunglasses, scarf and beanie are from Mildan Boutique.

Yöt kylmenevät, mutta en ole nähnyt vielä lunta. Oikeastaan jo odotan ensilumen tuloa, sillä lumesta saa niin kivoja taustoja kuville, vaikka lumessa toki on omat ongelmansa. :D Todennäköisesti tulen myös ottamaan enemmän kuvia sisätiloissa, joten yritän tällä hetkellä löytää ja tehdä hyviä proppeja ja taustoja tätä varten. Mitä teille kuuluu?

Nights are getting cold here, but I have not seen snow yet. I am actually kind of looking forward to first snow. :D Sure, snow has its problems, but it also makes great backgrounds for photos... I will probably be taking more photos indoors, too, so I am currently trying to find and make good props and backgrounds for that. How are you all doing? 

(Edit: It snowed on the very next day. :D)

Vaikka en itse vietäkään halloweenia, ajattelin, että nyt olisi sopiva aika postailla joitakin teemaan sopivia (blogissa) julkaisemattomia kuvia. Kävin myös kuvaamassa Seila Nocturnea hautausmaalla. Postauksen aloituskuva on yksi ehdottomista suosikkikuvistani tuolta reissulta. Varoituksena että tämä postaus on vaihteeksi poikkeuksellisen kuvapainotteinen.

I do not celebrate Halloween myself, but I thought that this would be an appropriate time to post some theme-related photos I have not published (on this blog) yet. I also did a photoshoot at a cemetery with Seila Nocturne. The opening photo of the post is one of my absolute favourites from that photoshoot. As a warning, this post will be exceptionally photo focused.

Toisessa ja kolmannessa kuvassa Merlin stock-mekon alla näkyvä kauluspaita on itse tehty. Olen puhunut tästä aikaisemmin Instagramin puolella mutta en täällä blogissa, joten mainittakoon, että tästä asukokonaisuudesta on tullut suosikkiasuni CA Sepialle. Olin pitkään harkinnut Sepian chipien vaihtoa, koska tasaisen harmaat silmät tuntuivat (muka) tylsiltä. Nyt olen vaihteeksi taas päättänyt, että stock chipit ovat ja pysyvät, koska nukke näyttää tällaisena niin hyvältä kokovalkoisissa asuissa.

Ennen Seila Nocturnen hankkimista CA Sepia oli luottonukkeni kaikkiin kuvauksiin, joihin halusin jotain synkempää fiilistä: Sepialla oli nukeistani tummin face-up ja harmaansävyistä sai helposti aavemaista tunnelmaa. (Toisaalta Sepialle on nukeistani myös se, jolle vaaleanpunainen ja muut pastellisävyt sopivat parhaiten. :D Molempien ääripäiden nukke...) Sepian kuvaus tosin jäi tänä syksynä vähemmälle, koska priorisoin muita nukkeja. Kuvausideoita tosin olisi vielä, ja toivon, että ehtisin ainakin osan näistä toteuttamaan.

Sitten Seila Nocturnea:

The blouse under Merl's stock dress in the second and the third photo is handmade. I have talked about this earlier on my Instagram but not on this blog, so I shall mention that this outfit has become my favourite outfit for CA Sepia. I had thought about changing Sepia's eye chips for a long time as plain grey eyes seemed "boring" to me. Now I have, for a change, decided that the stock chips stay because the doll looks so good in all-white outfits this way.

Before I got Seila Nocturne, CA Sepia used to be my go-to doll for all photoshoots with darker atmosphere: Sepia has the darkest face-up of my dolls and the grayscale colour scheme can be used to create a ghostly mood. (On the other hand, Sepia is the doll for whom pink and other pastel colours suit the best. :D Talk about extremes...) However, I photographed Sepia less this year as I prioritized Seila Nocturne. I still have some photoshoot ideas for Sepia, though, so I hope I have time to realize at least some of those.

Nämä kuvat on otettu pari päivää Nocturnen paketin avaamisen jälkeen. Nuo kolmanneksi ja toiseksi viimeiset kuvat ovat kyllä ihan suosikkeja. Yleisesti näistä tulee vähän (tahattomat) Crimson Peak -vibat. :D

These photos were taken a couple of days after I opened her box. The third to last as well as the second to last photos are totally my favourites. In general, these photos kind of give out (unintentional) Crimson Peak vibes. :D

Kaikki synkemmät ympäristöt ovat suosikkikuvausaiheitani, joten tämäntyyppiset kuvat eivät tule rajoittumaan yhteen lokakuiseen postaukseen vuodessa. Näihin ympäristöihin sopivat nuket ovat myös niitä, jotka kiinnostavat ja inspiroivat eniten. Itse asiassa tämäntyyppisten nukkejen katraani tulee saamaan yhden tytön vahvistuksen piakkoin, sillä ostin käytettynä erään nuken toivelistaltani. ;D En vielä paljasta, mikä malli on kyseessä – halukkaat voivat arvuutella – mutta toivottavasti saan kuvattua tätäkin piakkoin. Sitä ennen yritän tosin saada käytyä ne syyskuvat läpi eli seuraavissa postauksissa on tulossa ainakin paljon Nellaa ja Megiä. 

All environments with darker mood are my favourite subjects to photograph, so this sort of photos will not be limited to one annual post in October. The dolls suitable for these kinds of environments are also the ones that interest and inspire me the most. In fact, my pack of this type of dolls will receive a reinforcement of one new girl soon as I bought one doll from my wishlist second-hand. ;D I will not reveal what model it is yet – you are free to leave your guesses – but hopefully I am able to take photos of her soon, too. However, before that I try to go through those autumn photos. In other words, in the next posts we will see at least Nella and Meg. 

A new wig for Nella

Olen viimeinkin saanut otettua kuvia Nellan uudesta peruukista. :D Ennen uusia kuvia vähän nuken historiaa ja mietteitä peruukkivalinnoista:

Elokuu 2014, Nella on vielä täysin stock / August 2014, Nella is still fully stock

Ostin Nellan uutena ja täysin stockina. Olin ihastunut asun lisäksi nuken face-upiin, jossa kiinnitin erityistä huomiota kulmakarvoihin: harvalla Pullipilla on yhtä pienet kulmat kuin Nellalla. Tämäntyyppiset kulmat ovat mieleeni jo itsessään, mutta lisäksi pidän siitä, että kulmat yhdistettynä nuken raollaan olevaan suuhun saavat nuken näyttämään hämmentyneeltä, lievästi yllättyneeltä tai hieman huolestuneelta. Nella siis erottui muista, yleensä hymyilevistä Pullipeista edukseen. Nellan peruukki ei kuitenkaan tee oikeutta näille kulmille, koska promokuvista poiketen peruukin otsahiukset peittävät kulmat lähes täysin. Tämä oli yksi niistä syistä, jotka saivat minut alun perin harkitsemaan peruukin vaihtoa huolimatta siitä, että mielestäni Nellan peruukki on yksi ikonisimmista ja tunnistettavimmista stock-peruukeista. (En silloin uskaltanut lähteä lyhentämään stock-peruukin otsahiuksia.)

Stock-peruukissa ei siis ole mitään vikaa: peruukki on yksi suosikeistani, kampaus on ihastuttava, eikä laadussakaan ole moitittavaa (lukuun ottamatta pientä epätasaisuutta otsahiuksissa). Letitkin ovat pysyneet kasassa joitakin yksittäisiä hiuksia lukuun ottamatta. Vaikka pidän stock-peruukista, Nellaa kuvatessa tuntui, että tummempi sävy sopisi nukelle paremmin ja toisi kontrastia nuken todella kalpeisiin kasvoihin. Silloin myös toivoin punahiuksista nukkea ja Nella oli täydellinen "uhri" punertavine kulmakarvoineen. (Kulmat toki ovat enemminkin oranssit, mutta silloin nuo tuntuivat tarpeeksi punaisilta. :P) Myös lettikampaus alkoi tuntua liian rajoittavalta niin paljon kuin Nellan leteistä pidänkin. Näistä syistä päädyin tilaamaan Nellalle punaisen peruukin, johon sai tehtyä jakauksen niin, että kulmat näkyvät. Peruukki oli kuin olikin mieleinen: se toi onnistuneesti kaivattua kontrastia ja sopi mielestäni hyvin yhteen nuken silmien ja yleisen olemuksen kanssa. Tällä peruukilla mentiin monta vuotta.

I bought Nella as new and fully stock. In addition to the outfit, I had fallen in love with doll's face up, especially the eyebrows: few Pullip dolls have as small eyebrows as Nella. This kind of eyebrows suit my taste on their own, but I also like how the brows combined with the slightly open mouth make the doll look confused, slightly surprised, or mildly worried – something very different from the usual smiling Pullip dolls. However, Nella's wig does not do justice to these brows, because unlike in the promo photos, the wig's fringe covers the eyebrows almost completely. This was one of the reasons that made me consider changing the wig, despite it being one of the most iconic and recognizable stock wigs in my opinion. (At that time, I did not have courage to shorten the fringe of the stock wig.)

To make things clear, I do not think there is anything wrong with the stock wig: it is one of my favourites, the hairstyle is lovely, and I do not have complaints about the quality either (apart from the slight unevenness of the fringe). The braids have stayed in one piece except for some singular hairs. Even though I like the stock wig, I felt like a darker colour would suit Nella better and bring some contrast to her very pale face when I was taking photos of her. At that time, I also wanted a red-haired doll and Nella was a perfect "victim" with her reddish eyebrows. (Although they are more orange than red but at that time, they were close enough. :P) The hairstyle also started to feel too restricting as much as I like the braids. For these reasons, I ended up ordering Nella a red wig that could be styled so that the eyebrows are visible. Luckily, I was happy with the wig: it successfully brought the wanted contrast and matched doll's eyes and overall appearance. Nella had this wig for many many years.

Aloin kuitenkin kaivata Nellan alkuperäistä ulkonäköä jossain vaiheessa. En kuitenkaan halunnut stock-peruukkia enää takaisin, koska olin vaihtanut sen syystä. (Stock-peruukki on vielä kyllä tallessa "kaiken varalta". :>) Lisäksi olin jo liian tottunut punaiseen sävyyn. Niinpä päädyin tekemään kompromissin ja tilaamaan uuden peruukin, joka oli jotain uuden ja alkuperäisen väliltä. Tavoitteena oli löytää peruukki, joka olisi mahdollisimman samaa väriä nuken kulmakarvojen kanssa. Lutsin väri "orange peach" näytti kuvissa aivan täydelliseltä ja jännitin, näyttäisikö se "livenä" yhtä hyvältä. 

Peruukki saapui noin kuukausi sitten ja väri osoittautui täydelliseksi. Jouduin tosin lyhentämään otsahiuksia hieman, jotta sain kulmakarvat näkyviin, mutta tämäkin sujui onneksi ongelmitta. Tässä kuvia uudesta peruukista:  

However, I started to miss Nella's original look at some point. Yet, I did not want her stock wig back as I had changed it for reasons. (I still have the stock wig "just in case", though. :>) Besides, I had already got too used to her having red hue. So, I ended up in a compromise and ordered her a new wig that would be something between the current and the original wig. The goal was to find a wig that would be as close as possible to the colour of her eyebrows. The colour called "orange peach" by Luts looked like a perfect match in the photos and I was excited to see if it looked just as good in real world. 

The wig arrived around a month ago and the colour turned out to be perfect. I had to shorten the fringe a bit in order to make the eyebrows visible, but I luckily did not have any problems with this either. Here are some photos of the new wig:

Nella on ainoa Pullip, jolle olen vaihtanut peruukin, sillä olen ostanut ainoastaan julkaisuja, joista pidän kokonaisuudessaan. Sinällään siis huvittavaa, että kaikki tähänastiset peruukkiostokset ovat menneet Nellalle. :D Katsotaan, mitä keksin tuolle vanhalle peruukille...

Tykkään muuten myös tuon uuden peruukin pituudesta ja muotoilusta ylipäätään: se on raikkaanoloinen ja kiharat ovat ihanan pöyheät. Lisäksi se vastaa visiotani täydellisesti: on hieno tunne, kun juuri se oikea peruukki (tai muu osa) löytyy ja nukke on tavallaan "valmis". Toki tämä sama tunne oli varmaan silloin kun ihastuin tuohon edelliseen peruukkiin. :D Katsotaan, tuleeko vuonna 2030 joku uusi peruukin hypetyspostaus, kun taas on löytynyt se täydellinen peruukki ja nukke on taas valmis. Mutta tämä varmaan kuuluu tähän harrastukseen... Tällä hetkellä tosin on sellainen olo, että kaikki on nyt, miten pitääkin, enkä vaihda tuota enää ikinä. :> Jee.

Jos joku harkitsee vastaavanlaisen peruukin hankkimista, niin voin sanoa, että itse ainakin olen tyytyväinen peruukin laatuun. Kuitu on sileää, peruukkiverkko ei näy ja ainakin näin äkkiseltään tämä yksilö vaikuttaa helppohoitoiselta, eikä takkuunnu samalla tavalla mitä maata laahaavat pitkät peruukit tai korkkiruuvikiharat.

Nella is the only Pullip whose wig I have changed as I have bought only releases who I like in their entirety. So, it is kind of funny that all wig purchases this far have gone to Nella. Let's see what I come up with that old wig...

By the way, I also like the lenght and style of the wig in general: it looks fresh and the curls are adorably fluffy. In addition, it matches my vision perfectly: it is such a nice feeling when you find the exact wig (or other part) you want and the doll is, in a way, "complete". Sure, I probably had this same feeling when I  fell in love with that previous wig. :D We will see if in 2030 I will post about a new wig hyping that it is the one and the doll is now (once again) complete. But this is probably part of this hobby... However, at the moment I do feel that everything is now as it should and that I will not change that wig ever again. :> Yay. 

In case of someone considering buying a similar wig: Personally, I am happy with the quality. The fiber is smooth, the wig cap is not showing anywhere and at least for now this wig seems easy to take care of as it does not get tangled like corkscrew curls or wigs long enough to touch the ground.  

Lopuksi taas joitain yleisiä kuulumisia: 

Niin paljon julkaisemattomia kuvia! En ole ehtinyt julkaista edes kaikkia syksykuvia vielä, mutta ehkä priorisoin halloweeniin sopivien kuvien julkaisua ensin. Lisäksi voin paljastaa, että projekti, jonka mainitsin edellisessä postauksessa, on uusi asukokonaisuus. Olen ollut erityisen tyytyväinen siihen, miltä Nella näyttää tässä asussa, joten myös kuvia on kertynyt runsaasti. Pitäisi alkaa käymään näitä läpi ja tehdä niistä ehkä oma postaus. Lisäksi tätä postausta kirjoittaessa tuli sellainen olo, että olisi vaikka kuinka paljon kerrottavaa myös vanhoista nukeista: mistä yksityiskohdista erityisesti pidän, miksi valitsin juuri tämän nuken, mitä mieltä olen vaatteiden ja peruukin laadusta, ja niin edelleen. Teen ehkä jossain vaiheessa arvostelupostauksien sarjan myös vanhoille nukkehankinnoille.

Varmaan ainoat asiat, joista en pidä syksyssä, ovat jatkuvat sateet ja päivien lyheneminen. Nämä molemmat kun rajoittavat valokuvaamista ja nukkejen "ulkoiluttamista". Odotan kuitenkin jo innolla talvikuvien ottamista. Pitäisi tätä ennen tosin tehdä nukeille lisää talvivaatteita. Intoa riittäisi vaikka mihin, mutta valitettavasti opinnot rajoittavat käytettävissä olevaa aikaa rankasti. En voi uskoa, että viime postauksestakin on jo kuukausi: aika menee todella nopeasti. Seuraavien projektien suunnitelmat ovat siis jo valmiina, mutta toteuttaminen on vielä vaiheessa. :P Tällä hetkellä inspiroi neulonta, virkkaus, neutraalit sävyt ja kaikki pehmeä ja lämpöinen. :-)

Finally, some general news:

I have so many unpublished photos! I have not even had time to publish all the autumn photos yet, but I think I am going to prioritize posting Halloween themed photos first. In addition, I can reveal that the project I mentioned in the last post is a new outfit. I have been particularly pleased with how it looks on Nella, so I have taken a lot of photos. I should start going through those and maybe make them a post on their own. In addition, while writing this post, I started to feel like there is a lot to tell about my old dolls as well: which details I especially like, why I chose this particular doll, what I think about the quality of the clothes and wig, and so on. Maybe at some point I will make a series of review posts for old doll purchases as well.

Probably the only things I do not like in autumn are constant rain and short days as these both limit photographing and taking dolls outside. However, I am looking forward to taking winter photos already. I should make my dolls new winter clothes before this, though. I am full of enthusiasm but sadly my studies heavily limit my free time. I cannot believe that it has been a month already since the last post: time goes very fast. In other words, plans for next projects are ready but the realization is still in progress. At the moment, I get inspired by knitting, crocheting, neutral colours and everything soft and warm. :-)

Viime postauksesta on kulunut yli kuukausi ja sillä aikaa on ehtinyt tulla syksy. En kuitenkaan ole vielä ehtinyt julkaista montakaan kuvaa kesältä, joten postaan niitä nyt. Tämän postauksen kuvat on otettu kolmella eri kuvauskerralla, mutta niillä on yhteinen rantateema. Postauksen lopussa höpötän vielä nukkeiluun liittyvistä kuulumisista yleisesti.

It has been over a month since the last post and meanwhile it has become autumn already. However, I have not had chance to post many summer pictures yet so I will do it now. The photos in this post are from three different photoshoots but they have a common theme: beaches. I will also ramble about doll-themed things in general at the end of the post.

Nämä ensimmäiset kuvat on otettu 27. kesäkuuta. Pahimpien hellekelien aikaan säälin Pullipejani, joilla ei ollut kunnollisia hellevaatteita tarpeeksi. Niinpä tein tämän vekkihameen ja virkatun topin:

These first photos were taken on June 27. During the worst heatwave I felt bad for my Pullips who did not have enough proper clothes for the hot season. This is why I made this pleated skirt and the crocheted top:

Hame on tehty vanhasta kangasnäytteestä, joka riitti aivan nipin napin. Yksi suosikkiasioistani nukkeharrastuksessa onkin, että voin hyödyntää ja kierrättää materiaaleja, jotka muuten jäisi käyttämättä. Olin niin innoissani uudesta asukokonaisuudesta ja hienosta kuvaussäästä, etten malttanut odottaa, että saan hameen vekit silitettyä. Tämän takia hame näyttää siistimmältä myöhemmissä kuvissa. :P

Virkattuun toppiin sain inspiraation ohikulkijalta puistossa. Topissa on nyörikiinnitys takana. Innostuin tekemään näitä loman aikana useampia eri väreissä, sillä oli parhautta vain istua ulkona ja virkata, kun energiaa ei hellesään takia riittänyt kunnolla muuhun.

The skirt is made of an old fabric sample which was just barely large enough. Being able to utilize and recycle materials that would otherwise have no use is one of my favourite parts of the doll hobby. I was so excited about the new outfit and the great weather for a photoshoot that I did not have time to iron the pleats. This is why the skirt looks neater in later photoshoots. :P

I got the idea for a crocheted top from a passer-by in a park. It has lacing on the back. I made several of these in different colours during the holiday because sitting outdoors and just crocheting was the best pasttime when I did not have energy to do anything else due to the hot weather.

Kun näin tämän pikkuruisen polun kulkevan tyrnipensaiden seassa, tiesin, että siitä olisi pakko saada kuva. Polku on juuri sopivan kokoinen nukeilleni ja rakastan kuvata Merliä puiden ja kasvien seassa, sillä näissä kuvissa Merl tuntuu eniten itseltään. Olen aina pitänyt Merliäni ulkoilmaihmisenä ja sellaisena pienenä seikkailijana. Niinpä haluan aina löytää uusia paikkoja Merlille seikkailtavaksi. :-)

When I saw this tiny path going in the middle of sea-buckthorn shrubs, I knew I had to get a photo of it. I think it is perfect size for my dolls and I love taking photos of Merl among trees and plants because in these photos Merl feels most like herself. I have always thought Merl as an outdoorsy person and as my little adventurer. That is why I always want to find her novel places to adventure in. :-)

Seuraavat kuvat on otettu 22. elokuuta. Tässä välissä tilasin Etsystä Pullipeille hellehatun ja tennarit. Kengät ovat onnekseni juuri oikean väriset ja pysyvät nuken jaloissa hyvin. Olen myös todella tyytyväinen hellehattuun – se sopii Merlille täydellisesti. Vaihdoin hattuun lilan nauhan, joka sopii yhteen kenkien ja topin kanssa. Pakko myöntää, että ihastuin tähän asukokonaisuuteen ja siitä muodostui nopeasti yksi ehdottomista suosikeistani (mikä on pääteltävissä ehkä jo valokuvien määrästä :P). 

The following photos were taken on August 22. Before these, I had ordered my dolls a sun hat and sneakers from Etsy. I am glad that the sneakers are exactly the right colour and they stay in doll's feet well. I am also very happy with the sun hat as it fits Merl perfectly. I changed the hat's ribbon into a lilac one which matches the shoes and the top. I have to admit that I fell in love with this outift and it very soon became one of my absolute favourites (which you can maybe tell from the number of photos taken :P).

Tällä välin meille ehti saapua myös uusi tulokas: Meg. Keskityn kuitenkin tässä postauksessa ottamiini kuviin, joten säästän pidemmät sepustukset ja fiilistelyt uudesta nukesta toiseen kertaan. Joka tapauksessa Meg pääsi lähes samantein malliksi virkkaamilleni bikineille ja hellehatulle:

During the time between photoshoots, I also got a new doll, Meg. However, in this post, I focus on photography, so I will save the exhaustive commentary about this for another time. Anyway, Meg ended up modeling the bikinis and sun hat I crocheted almost instantly:

Nämä viimeiset kuvat on otettu 23. elokuuta eli päivä edellisten jälkeen. Kerrassaan rakastan kuvata Merliä merenrannoilla ehkä koska ne ovat itselleni niin rakkaita ympäristöjä. Meriaiheinen stock-asu oli yksi niistä tekijöistä, jotka saivat minut valitsemaan juuri Merlin ensimmäiseksi nukekseni – Merl oli aivan kuin täydellinen minulle. Merl on kieltämättä ollut aina yksi niistä nukeista, jotka inspiroivat minua kaikkein eniten: kuvausideoille ei näy loppua.

These last photos were taken on August 23, one day after the previous ones. I absolutely love to photograph Merl at the seashores maybe because they are such dear environments to me personally. Merl's marine-themed stock outfit was one the factors that made me choose her as my first doll – Merl felt just perfect for me. Merl has admittedly always been one of the dolls that inspire me the most: the photoshoot ideas will not run out anytime soon.

Olen jotenkin erityisen mieltynyt yllä olevaan kuvaan, sillä minusta vaatteiden värit sopivat hirmuisen hyvin taustan väreihin. Tästä kuvasta välittyy itselleni myös sellainen rauhallinen tunnelma – toivon, että se välittyy teillekin!

I somehow particularly like the photo above, because I think the colours of the clothes match the colours in the background awfully well. This photo also conveys a peaceful atmosphere to me – I hope it conveys it to you as well!

Meg lainasi Merlin stock-mekkoa näitä kuvauksia varten. Pidän tämän(kin) kuvan taustasta paljon, sillä se sopii Megille niin hyvin – Meg näyttää kovasti itseltään tässä kuvassa. :D
On sinänsä huvittavaa, että olen miettinyt nukkejen persoonallisuuksia, taustoja ja ihmissuhteita jo melko kattavasti valmiiksi, mutta nukeille ei silti vieläkään ole valittu omia nimiä. Joitain nimikandidaatteja on kyllä jo harkittu, joten saa nähdä, josko saisin osan nimistä lyötyä lukkoon vielä tämän vuoden puolella...

In a way, it is funny that I have planned my dolls' personalities, backstories and relationships pretty comprehensively but have not decided their names yet. I have considered some name candidates, though, so we will see, if I can choose at least some of the names later this year...

Huomatkaa vene taustalla! Vaikka sen ilmestyminen täydelliselle paikalle oli puhdasta sattumaa, se on minusta siisti pieni yksityiskohta. Nämä olivat kesän viimeiset kuvat, joten oli myös hauskaa päättää kesäkausi johonkin vähän erityiseen ja muistettavaan.

Please notice the boat in the background! The appearance of the boat in the perfect location was purely a coincidence but I think it is such a fun little detail. How cool is that. These were the last photos of the summer, so I think it was fun to end the season to something a bit special and memorable.

Tilasin Nellalle uuden peruukin, joka saapui viime viikolla. (28. elokuuta tuli muuten kuluneeksi kahdeksan vuotta siitä, kun sain Nellan!) Peruukin väri on juuri sellainen kuin odotinkin, mutta se jäi odottamaan vielä otsahiusten trimmaamista. Katson, josko saisin urakoitua tämän projektin loppuun tänä viikonloppuna. Lisäksi olen saamassa erään toisen projektin valmiiksi piakkoin, enkä malta odottaa, että pääsen kuvaamaan sitä.

Kieltämättä harmittaa, etten ole ehtinyt kuvaamaan nukkeja syksyn aikana käytännössä ollenkaan opiskelukiireiden takia. Syksy on suosikkivuodenaikani: rakastan kerrospukeutumista, syksyn värejä ja lämmittäviä teekupposia. Toivon säiden olevan suotuisia ja ehtiväni kuvata nukkeja näiden teemojen parissa vielä tänä syksynä. :-)   

Finally, some general catch-up:

I ordered a new wig for Nella and it arrived last week. (By the way, on August 28th it was Nella's eight anniversary!) The colour of the wig is exactly what I expected but I want to trim the fringe a bit. I will see if I can get it done this weekend. Additionally, I have another project I will finish soon and I cannot wait to take photos of it.

It is a shame that I have not had time to take photos of my dolls during the fall practically at all due to being busy with my studies. Autumn is my favorite season: I love layered clothes, autumn colours and warming cups of tea. I hope the weather will be favourable and I will have time to photograph dolls with these themes this fall. :-)

Seila Nocturne Review

Tilasin Seila Nocturnen Pullip Stylestä yhtä aikaa Noanin kanssa. Avasin paketin 4. elokuuta, mutta arvostelun kirjoittamisessa on kestänyt, sillä sairastuin heti seuraavana päivänä. Nyt tervehdyttyäni olen taas jaksanut kuvata ja kirjoitella pikkuhiljaa.

I ordered Seila Nocturne from Pullip Style at the same time as Noan. I opened the box on August 4th, but it took a while to write this review, because I got sick on the very next day. Now I have recovered and been able to start taking photos and writing again little by little.

En yleensä ota erikseen näin montaa kuvaa Pullipin paketeista, mutta Seila Nocturnen paketti on vaikuttava. En ehkä itse olisi keksinyt valita punaista pääväriä, mutta se on yllättävän sopiva ja tuo kontrastia paketin hempeän vaaleanpunaiseen sisäpuoleen ja vaaleaan nukkeen. Tämä on yksi yksityiskohtaisimmista paketeista, joita olen nähnyt. Paketin molemmilla sivuilla on ikkunat, joista näkyy nuken nimeen viitaten yömaisema. Paketissa on kuvattu lukuisia esineitä yhdistellen valokuvaa ja piirrosta. Tämä on varmaan suosikkini kaikista Pullip-paketeista, sillä tästä tuntuu löytyvän aina jokin uusi yksityiskohta, jota ei ollut ennen huomannut. 

I do not usually take this many photos of Pullip boxes, but Seila Nocturne's box is impressive. I probably would not have come up with red main colour myself, but it fits surprisingly well and contrasts with box's pale pink interior and the light-coloured doll. This is one of the most detailed Pullip boxes I have seen. Both sides have pictures of a window with a night view, referring to doll's name. Numerous items have been pictured on the box combining photography and drawing. This is probably my favourite of all Pullip boxes as it seems like there is always some new detail to be found.

Seila Nocturnen face-up on kerrassaan ihastuttava. Kaikki on niin utuisen pehmeää ja blushauksen määrässä ei ole säästelty, mikä tekee Nocturnesta "elävän" näköisen. Kiinnitin huomiota siihen, että monista muista stock face-upeista poiketen nukella on mattahuulet ja nuken nenää on hieman varjostettu. Alkuperäisen Seilan tavoin Nocturnella on huolestuneen näköiset kulmakarvat ja nuken ilme muuttuu huomattavasti sen mukaan, peittävätkö otsahiukset kulmakarvat vai eivät. Myös silmänrajauksen muoto mukailee alkuperäistä Seilaa, mutta on silti omannäköisensä. Vaaleanpunainen ja valkoinen keventävät meikkiä ilman, että se alkaa näyttää liian vaaleanpunaiselta. En ollut aluksi varma keltaisesta luomiväristä kuvien perusteella, mutta nyt näin "livenä" se ei häiritse ollenkaan. Nuken ripset ovat keskivertoja stock-ripsiä runsaammat ja pidemmät, ja nuken alaluomessa on glitteriä.

Myös silmien chipit ovat yksityiskohtaiset ja elävät. Tämä väriyhdistelmä on myös jotenkin ihan suosikkini: olisin valinnut nämä värit myös itse ja ehkä ennen pitkää tehnyt MIO-kitin vastaavilla chipeillä. Kiitos nuken suunnittelijoiden, nyt en joudu rakentamaan itse omaa nukkea. ;-) Silmien värit vaikuttavat varmaan osaltaan meikin ohella siihen, miksi Nocturnen yleisilme eroaa niin paljon alkuperäisestä Seilasta. Pidän siitä, miten Nocturnen katse tuntuu (ainakin minun mielestäni) paljon terävämmältä kuin alkuperäisen Seilan. Kun tämä yhdistetään runsaan blushauksen tuomaan elävyyteen, ymmärrän, miksi jotkut pitävät tätä julkaisua jopa vähän pelottavana. :D Joka tapauksessa pidän virkistävänä, että Nocturne on selvästi uusi, oma julkaisunsa eikä vain "Seila vaihtoehtoisilla väreillä". Alkuperäinen Seila on itselleni sellainen täydellinen klassikko, ettei sen pohjalta sovi tehdä uutta julkaisua luomatta jotain aidosti uutta. Uusi, liian samanlainen versio tuntuisi helposti melkeinpä Seilan "lite-mallilta". Silti Nocturnessa on onnistuneesti säilytetty jotakin seilamaista, mitä ilman en ehkä olisi tehnyt tätä ostopäätöstä.

Face-upista sanon vielä, että tätä nukkea on todella ilo kuvata. Kiitos voimakkaiden värien ja blushauksen, nuken naama ei mistään kulmasta tai missään valaistuksessa tunnu näyttävän tylsältä tai littanalta. Tuntuu suorastaan haastavalta saada nukesta huonoa kuvaa. Ehkä liioittelen, mutta olen yksinkertaisesti ihastunut. Lähikuvia face-upista:

Seila Nocturne's face-up is absolutely lovely. Everything is so soft and there is an abundant amount of blushing which makes Nocturne seem life-like. Matte lips and the slightly contoured nose caught my attention – something different from many other stock face-ups. Like the original Seila, Nocturne has worried-looking eyebrows and the doll's overall expression changes significantly depending on whether the fringe covers the eyebrows or not. The eyeliner follows the same shape as original Seila's, but looks unique nonetheless. The pink and white shades lighten the make up without making it look too pink. Judging by photos, I was not sure about the yellow eyeshadow at first, but now in live it does not bother me at all. The doll's eyelashes are longer and thicker than average stock lashes, and there is glitter on the doll's lower eyelid.

The eyechips are detailed and life-like, too. This colour combination is somehow totally my favourite: I would have chosen these colours myself as well and maybe eventually made a MIO kit with similar eyechips. Thanks to the doll's designers, I do not have to build my own doll now. ;-) The eye colours probably play a part – along with make-up – why Nocturne's general mood differs so much from the original Seila. I like how Nocturne's gaze seems (at least to me) more staring than original Seila's. When this is combined with life-likeness caused by abundant blushing, I can kind of see why some people find this release a bit creepy. :D Anyway, I find it refreshing that Nocturne is clearly a new, unique release and not just "Seila with alternative colour scheme". For me, the original Seila is such a perfect classic that it would not feel appropriate to make a new version of her without creating something truly new. If the new version was too similar, it would easily feel almost like a "lite version" of Seila. Nonetheless, something Seila-like has been successfully preserved in Nocturne, without which I probably would not have decided to make the purchase.

One more thing about face-up is that this doll is truly a pleasure to photograph. Thanks to vibrant colours and blushing, the doll's face do not seem boring or flat from any angle or in any lighting. It feels almost challenging to get a bad photo of this doll. Maybe I am exaggerating but I am simply smitten by this doll. Close-ups of the face-up:

Glitteriä alaluomessa / Glitter on the lower eyelid

Seila Nocturnen hiuksissa on kolmea väriä: blondia, vaaleanpunaista ja vihreää. Vaaleanpunainen tuo ihanaa lämpimää sävyä hiuksiin, mutta vihreästä en ollut aluksi niin varma. Jotenkin sekin vain toimii, enkä nuken saatuani ole liiemmin kiinnittänyt vihreän sopivuuteen tai sopimattomuuteen huomiota. Ehkä koska vihreää on käytetty hyvin maltillisesti ja se näyttää selvästi vihreältä ainoastaan takana. Näin ollen vihreä tuntuu minusta enemmän varjostusmaiselta sävyltä, joka luo lisäsyvyyttä hiuksiin.

Hiusten kampausta on kerrostettu käyttämällä neljää eri pituutta: otsahiukset, 'hime cut', pitempi 'hime cut' ja pitkät lainekiharat. Kampaus kehystää nuken kasvoja kauniisti ja sopii lisäksi hyvin nuken stock-asuun kuuluvaan hilkkaan, kun lyhyemmät hiukset saa aseteltua eteen ja pitkät jätettyä taakse hilkan alle.

Peruukin laatu on pääosin hyvä: eri värejä on sopivassa suhteessa, kiharat ovat ihanat ja kuitu on sileää ja pehmeää. Oikeastaan ainoa valittamisen aihe on, että peruukki on melko ohut ja verkko näkyy hieman päälaelta. Kuvia peruukista:

Seila Nocturne's hair has three different colours: blonde, pink and green. The pink gives the hair a lovely warm tone, but I was not so sure about the green at first. However, somehow it just works and after receiving the doll, I have paid little attention to whether the green fits or not. Maybe because the green colour has been used very sparingly and a clear green colour can be seen only on the back of the wig. Thus, to me, the green feels more like shade-like toning which creates some extra depth to the hair.

Four different hair lenghts have been used to create layers in the hairstyle: the fringe, hime cut, longer hime cut and long beach waves. The hairstyle frames doll's face beautifully and it also goes well together with the stock outfit's bonnet as shorter hair can be set in the front and the long hair left behind under the bonnet.

The wig's quality is mainly good: ratios of different colours are appropriate, the curls are lovely and the fiber is smooth and soft. My only complaint is that the wig is quite thin and the wig cap is showing a bit on the top of the head. Photos of the wig:

Rehellisesti sanottuna en aluksi pitänyt Nocturnen vaatteista yhtä paljon kuin alkuperäisen Seilan. Ne näyttivät kuvissa vähän mitäänsanomattomilta ja ostin nuken ensisijaisesti face-upin perusteella. Nuken saatuani huomasin kuitenkin olleeni väärässä, sillä myös Nocturnen vaatteissa on paljon yksityiskohtia ja asun tyyliä voi helposti muunnella irrotettavilla ja lisättävillä osilla. Seila Nocturnen asuun kuuluu mekko, essu, alushame, irrotettava kaulus, hilkka, avain, kasvomaski, hiuslisäkkeet, mamelukkihousut, sukat ja kengät. Lisäksi nuken mukana tulee pehmoeläin, tyyny, kirja, teline ja aitouskortti. Mekko itsessään on luonnonvalkoinen, mutta essu ja pitsit ovat puhtaanvalkoisia. Tämä on ehkä epätavallinen yhdistelmä, mutta toimii tässä.

 

To be honest, at first I did not like Nocturne's clothes as much as original Seila's. They seemed a bit bland in the photos and I bought the doll mainly because of the face-up. However, when I got the doll, I realized that I had been wrong: Nocturne's outfit has a lot of details, too, and the style of the outfit can be easily changed with removable and additional parts. Seila Nocturne's outfit consists of dress, apron, underskirt, detachable collar, bonnet, key, face mask, hair extensions, bloomers, socks and shoes. In addition, the doll comes with a stuffed animal, a pillow, a book, the stand and the authenticity card. The dress itself is off-white but the apron and lace are white. This may be an unconventional combination but it works in this outfit.

Nuken mukana tulee kaksi kiharaa, jotka kiinnitetään peruukkiin hiusklipseillä. Hiusklipseissä on söpöt rusetit ja kiharat tuovat lisää alkuperäisen Seilan olemusta. Klipsejä on helppo käyttää ja ne pysyvät hyvin paikoillaan, mutta rusetit eivät peitä koko klipsiä, jolloin klipsit jäävät helposti näkyviin. 

The doll comes with two curls that can be attached to the wig with hair clips. The hair clips have cute ribbons and the curls bring some essence of the original Seila. The clips are easy to use and they stay in place well but getting them entirely hidden can be a bit tricky.

Mekon yksityiskohtien ja irrotettavan kauluksen ohella hilkka on ehdottomasti yksi suosikkiasioistani tässä asussa. Se istuu hyvin nuken päähän ja kuten aikaisemmin mainitsin, se sopii täydellisesti yhteen nuken kampauksen kanssa. Lisäksi se muuttaa nuken olemusta ja asun tyyliä huomattavasti. Pitsiä ja rusetteja on tässäkin sopivasti – pitsiä on jopa leuan alta solmittavien rusetinnarujen päissä.  

Along with the details on the dress and the detachable collar, the bonnet is definitely one of my favourite things in this outfit. The bonnet fits well and as I mentioned earlier, it is a perfect match with the doll's hairstyle. In addition, it changes the overall mood of the doll and the style of the outfit significantly. There is an adequate amount of lace and ribbons as well – even the ribbon under the chin has its own lace on its ends.

On hauska yhteensattuma, että molemmilla uusilla nukeillani on kasvomaski ja pehmoeläin. Tämä ei ollut suunniteltu juttu. :D Pitääkin ottaa jossain vaiheessa näistä kahdesta (Seila Nocturne ja Noan) ryhmäkuva. Tuo Seila Nocturnen pehmoeläin taitaa olla virallisesti 'body pillow', mutta tyynyn ja pehmoeläimen raja on minusta häilyvä ja minulle on luontevampaa kutsua tuota otusta pehmoeläimeksi. "Otus" on muuten nuken suunnittelijan, Mitsubachin, oma hahmo, Hen-Nako. Myös alkuperäisellä Seilalla on Hen-Nako, joskin pehmolelun sijaan pienenä figuurina. Lisäksi Hen-Nako on esiintynyt monissa muissa Mitsubachin töissä.

Pehmoeläin on täytetty helmillä. Täytettä ei ole paljoa, joten pehmoeläin on melko veltto ja sitä saa helposti rutisteltua sopivaan muotoon nuken kainaloon. Kääntöpuolella on paradoksaalinen teksti: "good nightmare".

I think it is a funny coincidence that both of my new dolls have a face mask and a stuffed animal. This was not planned. :D I should take a group photo of them (Seila Nocturne and Noan) at some point. Apparently Seila Nocturne's stuffed toy is officially a 'body pillow' but for me the line between a stuffed animal and a pillow is thin and it feels more natural to call this creature a stuffed animal. The "creature", by the way, is the doll's designer's, Mitsubachi's, original character called Hen-Nako. The original Seila also has her own Hen-Nako, although as a small figurine instead of a stuffed toy. Hen-Nako has been featured in various other works of Mitsubachi, too.

The toy is stuffed with small beads. There is not much filling, so the stuffed toy feels a bit droopy and can nicely be squeezed into doll's arms. On the backside it reads paradoxically: "good nightmare".

Kasvomaski / The face mask

Lisäksi Seila Nocturnen mukana tuli tyyny sekä alkuperäistä Seilaa mukaillen avain ja kirja. Avaimessa on niin pitkät nauhat, että rekvisiittana käytön lisäksi sen voi sitoa kaulakoruksi. (Ks. aikaisempi kuva mekosta ilman essua ja kaulusta.) Kirjan kansissa on Nietzschen sitaatteja englanniksi. Kirjan ei harmillisesti ole avattava, mutta sen "sivut" ovat kultaisia. Huomatkaa muuten tuossa kirjakuvassa, että nukella on vaaleanpunaista kynsilakkaa. <3

In addition, Seila Nocturne came with a pillow and – like original Seila – a key and a book. The key has such a long ribbon that in addition to being used as a prop, it can be tied and used as a necklace. (See the earlier photo of the dress without collar or apron.) The book covers have quotes from Nietzsche in English. Sadly, the book cannot be opened but its "pages" are golden. By the way, please notice the pink nail polish in the photo with the book. <3

Nuken kengät ovat melko neutraalit ja sopisivat monien asujen kanssa. Ne eivät näytä suurilta, mutta eivät pysy hyvin nuken jaloissa. :( Testaan myöhemmin, auttavatko paksummat sukat. Nocturnen sukat ovat melko ohuet ja venyvää kangasta, joten ne on helppo pukea. Myös sukissa on pitsiä, vaikka se ei mekon alta näykään.

 

The doll's shoes are pretty neutral and will probably go with several different outfits. They do not look big, but they do not stay on doll's feet properly. :( I will see later if thicker socks will help. Nocturne's socks are made of thin and stretchy fabric which makes them easy to put on. The socks have lace, too, although it is not visible under the dress.

Lopuksi vielä yleisiä ajatuksia ja yhteenvetoa:

 

En surukseni ja murheekseni omista (vielä) alkuperäistä Seilaa ja Seila onkin itselleni ehdottomasti Pullipien 'the grail'. Seila oli yksi aivan ensimmäisistä Pullipeista, joista kiinnostuin, mutta pitkän pohdinnan jälkeen päädyin ostamaan Merlin Seilan sijasta kahdeksan vuotta sitten. Päätös jättää Seila ostamatta harmittaa näin jälkikäteen aivan vietävästi. (Toki myös Merl on edelleen yksi suosikeistani, mutta kohtuuhintaisen Merlin löytäminen on vielä nykyäänkin helppoa toisin kuin Seilan.) Myönnän, että koska alkuperäisen Seilan löytäminen järkevään hintaan on aika lailla sattumankauppaa, kiinnostuin Nocturnesta alun perin alkuperäisen Seilan korvikkeena. Olihan Nocturnessa silti paljon samoja piirteitä kuin alkuperäisessä Seilassa, ja monet Seilalle suunnitellut kuvausideat toimisivat myös Nocturnella.

 

Korvaako Nocturne alkuperäisen Seilan paikan kokoelmassani? Vastaus on jyrkkä ei (ja grail-nuken etsintä jatkuu). En kuitenkaan pidä tätä huonona asiana, sillä kuten aikaisemmin tekstissä jo pohdiskelin, on hienoa, että Nocturne on selvästi oma julkaisunsa. Mikäli Seila olisi saanut saman kohtelun kuin monet muut uudet versiot Pullipeista eli lähinnä vain värit olisi vaihdettu, olisi uusi julkaisu saattanut tuntua suorastaan lohdutuspalkinnolta alkuperäistä Seilaa vaille jääneille. Lisäksi en pysty kuvittelemaan alkuperäiselle Seilalle mitään muuta väriä kuin mustan ja nukke itsessään tuntuu niin täydelliseltä klassikolta, ettei kokonaisuutta sovi muutella tekemättä jotain aidosti uutta. 

 

On myös kiva, että koska eri versiot eroavat toisistaan niin paljon, ei molempienkaan nukkejen omistamisesta ole haittaa. Aluksi vertasin nukkeja lähinnä sen perusteella, kummasta pidän enemmän. Alkuperäinen Seila oli värimaailmansa ja vaatetuksensa puolesta ehdoton voittaja. Sen sijaan aloin tykästymään Nocturnen face-upiin, chipeihin ja peruukkiin jopa enemmän kuin alkuperäisen Seilan. Viime kädessä nukkeja on kuitenkin vaikea verrata toisiinsa, sillä ne eroavat yleisiltä olemuksiltaan niin paljon ja niille on omat "lokeronsa" nukkekokoelmassa. Siinä missä alkuperäinen Seila on goottilolitamuodin kulminoituma upeine vaatteineen ja näyttävine kiharoineen, Nocturne sopii enemminkin goottilaisen kauhun kuvastoon vaeltelemaan linnan tai kartanon käytäville yömekossaan.

 

Groove-blogin mukaan Nocturne on suunniteltu siten, että myös alkuperäisen Seilan vaatteet näyttävät hyviltä nuken päällä. Tämän takia yksi seuraavista projekteistani on varmaan ommella Nocturnelle mustat goottilolitavaatteet ja katsoa, miten paljon vaatteiden väri ja tyyli vaikuttaa nuken ulkonäköön. Kuvausideoita riittää kyllä muutenkin, sillä olen innoissani tästä nukesta. :-)

Finally, some general thoughts and wrap-up:

 

Lamentably, I do not have the original Seila (yet) and she is definitely the grail of all Pullips to me. Seila was one of the very first Pullips I got interested in, but after thorough deliberation I ended up buying Merl instead of Seila eight years ago. In retrospect, I regret this decision a lot. (Of course, Merl is still one of my favourites but finding a reasonable priced Merl is still easy unlike Seila.) I admit that since finding Seila at a reasonable price is very hit-and-miss, I originally got interested in Nocturne as a replacement for original Seila. After all, Nocturne has several same features as the original Seila, and many photoshoots planned for Seila would work with Nocturne as well.

Does Nocturne replace the original Seila in my collection? The answer is a resounding no (and the search for the grail doll continues). However, I do not see this as a bad thing: as I discussed in the text earlier, it is nice that Nocturne is clearly its own, unique release. If Seila had got the same treatment as many new Pullip versions that is the same doll with alternative colours, it could have felt almost like a consolation prize meant for those who missed the original. In addition, I cannot imagine original Seila with any other colour than black and for me the doll itself is a perfect classic whose entirety should not be modified if not creating something truly new.

It is also nice that as the versions differ so much from each other, there is no harm having both of them. At first I compared the dolls mainly based on which one I liked more. The original Seila was a clear winner by her colour scheme and outfit. On the other hand, I had began to like Nocturne's face-up, chips and wig even more than original Seila's. In the end, however, it is difficult to compare these dolls as their overall essence is so different and they both have their own "niche" in a doll collection. Where original Seila is a culmination of gothic lolita fashion with her gorgeous clothes and impressive hairstyle, Nocturne fits better into gothic horror aesthetics walking in castle or mansion corridors in her nightgown.

According to Groove's blog, Nocturne has been designed to look good also in original Seila's clothes. This is why one of my next projects will probably be to make a black gothic lolita outfit for my Nocturne and see how much the colour and style of the clothes affect the overall look of the doll. Anyhow, there is plenty of photoshoot ideas as I am excited about this doll. :-)
